The Monarch appears as a primary antagonist in the Venture Bros, alongside his then-girlfriend and later wife, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. Orphaned as a child, The Monarch was raised by Monarch butterflies for a short time, sparking his lifelong fascination with them. In college, he made his first attempt to become the arch-enemy of Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, due to his obsessive hatred of him. After college, he started his career in villainy as a low-level henchmen, where he then met his future wife. Together, they began their "arching" (villains being arch-enemies with a hero), targeting Dr. Venture for the duration of the series. His wife later became a council member in the Guild of Calamitous Intent, while The Monarch rose to a level 10 villain. |
