 James Morgan "Jimmy" McGill, better known by his professional alias Saul Goodman, is the former principal attorney of Saul Goodman & Associates. He operated out of a cheap strip mall office and ran over-the-top late night TV commercials advising potential clients to "Better Call Saul" when in trouble with the law. While his ads seemed tacky and cheap, Saul was an effective lawyer, using illegal tactics and dirty schemes to get his clients released or acquitted. He had a long and checkered past that led up to his adoption of the Saul Goodman persona. He began his career with an attempt to be a reputable lawyer in order to gain the respect of his older brother and the woman that he loved, but he struggled with what was right and what was wrong, and with every line he crossed, he got closer to the point of no return. After getting wrapped up in illicit activities of an unfathomable magnitude, he was left mentally broken after losing everything that was important to him. Devoid of anyone's respect, he fully embraced the performance of being a scumbag lawyer as Saul Goodman. Years later, when his client Walter White's illegal activity was exposed, Saul was forced to abandon his life as a criminal lawyer. With the help of a criminal extractor, Saul fled to Omaha, Nebraska, and began a new life as Gene, the manager of a Cinnabon restaurant where he lived in constant fear of exposure and arrest, as well as regret over losing his past life. However, as the saying goes, the past always catches up with you. With immense shame, a desire to atone for his crimes, and the hope to redeem himself in the eyes of the only person who mattered to him, he shed all of his aliases and faced punishment as James McGill. |
