bio ❧

»This genetic variant, known as an “Eboncrow,” carries dominant alleles that produces dark characteristics in its body and wings. Close examination will reveal its original patterns, likening it to its Effluvial Crow origins. However this mutation, like the Albino Crow, has also affected its natural viral properties; and therefore, its way of life. Their wings are shorter for sharper mid-air turns and maneuverability; however they are magickless. Regardless, the Eboncrows are still able to wield normal Sornieth magic as well as any other dragon when given the chance, but are largely roguish fighters.
Despite being a variant of the Effluvial Crow, they are perhaps the most abundant and readily available type of Crow that can be found all throughout Sornieth, second only to Lesser Eboncrows. Due to the sheer formidable number of their relative population, there is little need in the way of rigorous training or intense survival measures to compensate for. What they lack in quality, they greatly make up for in quantity.

» Contagion effects: Their viral strain is a mutated version of the Effluvial variety. It is odorless and more immediately fatal compared to its bolstering-blood frenzying cousin. Eboncrows are able to control the dose that is distributed to their victims. In small amounts, dizziness, nausea and confusion and thrashing are common symptoms that may not necessarily lead to death. Larger quantities can overstimulate the heart and lead to a quick death in a matter of minutes. Outwardly, it appears similar to a strong venom, but make no mistake that it is a bloodborne disease that can quickly spread to infect others that have made contact with it. It is important to note that Effluvial Crows are immune to their disease, but the inverse is not true.

notes ❧

» A fairly clannish and social species, Eboncrows are typically found in large colonies known as a “Rookery.” They are an invasive species whose ability to quickly reproduce and outcompete native denizens earns it a troubling reputation. They get along easily with their own species as a whole and even actively work together with Lesser Eboncrows. However, they will still keep divided territories consisting of their own Rookery, similar to clans.

» Their large numbers and their ability to freely cooperate has created a large information network among themselves where it can be traded, sold or distributed in turn for favors or rewards. Their eyes and ears are everywhere. While useful to take advantage of, this also makes the denizens of Sornieth rather wary when an Eboncrow is present within eavesdropping range. As a result, Eboncrows will disguise their distinctive patterns and wings by donning various attire and passing themselves as simply a common Wildclaw.
» Their occupation in information trading has also opened more sinister opportunities in which many put their odorless viral strain to assassination work. Eboncrows never work alone, and if you are being pursued by one, know that there are many more just out of sight.
» Crested Eboncrows (level 20+) are long-lived, powerful, cunning and even talented individuals among their kind. Their survival and experience has made them grow larger in size over time. Their black feathers form a larger intimidating crest that is adorned by a set of longer curved or branching horns (though individuals may sometimes file them down). Where there is a pack (or a murder) of Eboncrows, there is always a Crested Eboncrow overseeing the operation. They are ruthless fighters who are adept at giving commands to their flock in the heat of battle. May sometimes be accompanied by Lesser Eboncrows. They have no sense of humor for insubordination, but also won't listen to anyone they regard as weaker than them.
» Eboncrow feathers hold no value in Crow society. Among themselves, they are used as calling cards and death threats. There has been known circumstance where they notch lines into the quill of their feathers to use as a form of simple coded messages. They are distinct to one another down to the individual.
» Still harboring a magpie behavior, they love gold and silver in equal measure. However, due to the size of their population and rookeries, there is often not enough to go around. Those on the bottom of the pecking order are forced to settle for iron and copper imitations, occasionally only owning one or two articles of actual prized jewelry passed down from their parents. Gems almost always go to those with higher standing.
» They avoid taking contracts involving Effluvial Crows. There is often little to gain and much to lose, especially if their virus does not work on them. Likewise Effluvial Crows often do not go out of their way to accept work directly involving Eboncrows, finding their numbers and social repercussions to be “annoying” more than anything else. If this rule is broken, individuals involved tend to be held accountable over the entire species in order to minimize mass conflict.

» They have no real relationship with Effluvial Crows, Lesser Crows or any Albino Crow variants as a species; preferring to keep to their own, their views are largely considered neutral--if not put on a strictly “do not bother” list to avoid bringing home unnecessary trouble.

ejp3Tju.pngxVmNWyKo.pngxCfs1c9q.pngxYCDOaag.png

[Viral Signature: Deathstrike]

A trait stemming from the Eboncrow bloodline.

Odorless and more immediately fatal compared to its bolstering-blood frenzying cousin. Eboncrows are able to control the dose that is distributed to their victims.

In small amounts, dizziness, nausea and confusion and thrashing are common symptoms that may not necessarily lead to death but certainly extreme discomfort.

It is delivered via a puncture from their claws.

It can be used in conjunction as a “combo ability” with the Lesser Eboncrow’s (peacock) strain to prevent the victim from succumbing to death when afflicted by their contagion. Between the two, this helps to ensure that there are far more useful hostages than there would be silent corpses.

[Wing Traits: Aerial Ace]

A physical trait of Eboncrows, where one’s wings are a bit shorter, but also more finely shaped than most of the Crow variants. As a result they are swifter and more agile in aerial combat compared to their cousins. It makes them very formidable fighters as well as difficult to catch.

Few are able to outfly a pair of Eboncrow wings in terms of speed and grace, but if one does not train up their stamina, then it may only be a matter of time before they are caught up to.

[Latent Traits I: Murder Brigade (Offense)]

An Eboncrow latent perk. The individual works naturally well in groups--too well, in fact. They will prefer to be part of a mob rather than fight alone, but once having blended into the crowd of angry faces, they are able to weave in and out effortlessly, picking up hits where others leave off and sleuthing for other equally delicious opportunities to contribute.

[Latent Traits II: Clawed Connections]

An Eboncrow latent perk. Individuals with this trait are naturally good at making connections within all societies. Rules and etiquette come easily to them even if they don’t believe in it themselves. They can naturally find their way to a black market or ties with the societal underworld. Either way if there’s a question that needs answering, they usually know who to ask.
