Hildegard

Born with the ability to see beyond the material world, Hildegard spent her early years tormented by visions of the had-been and might-be. She tried everything to rid herself of the Sight: potions, rituals, psychic intervention, even locking herself away in a dark, soundless room for days. Nothing worked. If her third eye was closed, a fourth would open in its stead, and so on, and so forth.

In a final act of desperation, she decided to remove her two main eyes instead. The attempt left her with extensive burns, but succeeded: she no longer sees light as other dragons do, but only the illumination of the beyond.

Hildegard went on to become a healer. She once dreamed of joining the College of Surgeons, but was rejected,* and found that she was better suited to counseling and cottage herbalism. Despite her off-putting appearance, her empathy and gentle humor soon win over most dragons.

She also advises her clan leaders on matters of the soul. Her feline familiars--who can also see into the beyond, as everyone knows--help her in her work.


* (That is to say, I wanted her in the Surgeons subspecies, but her colors weren't quite right. And then it stopped existing for a few years.)
