Biography
Sheilah was an unusual hatchling from a young age. Often times her parents or other dragons in her birth clan would catch her seemingly talking to herself or staring off into empty space. Her parents worried and fretted over the health of their hatchling, especially when it became more obvious that her siblings were getting older but Sheilah still seemed to remain the same age. They'd raised several nests before and never had they had any issues with their hatchlings. On top of that, her fur patterns were unlike either of their own, aside from her tiny faceted wings. Her father almost would have suspected he wasn't the father had it not been for the rest of the nest appearing normal.
She was taken to several healers and doctors across Arcane, hoping one of them might have an explanation. Most of the time Sheilah stayed quiet, still off in her own little world interacting with things they couldn't see. When she wasn't, the gaoler acted like any other happy go lucky hatchling- as if she were perfectly healthy. Many healers sent them away without answers until they came to one residing on the border of Plague and Arcane. It was there Sheilah's ability to see spirits came to light. The healer worked with the hatchling for some time to help the young gaoler understand and control this power while her parents returned home.
Overtime, Sheilah learned how to summon spirits as well as communicate with them. It was a slow process but eventually she could make it so other dragons could see these ghosts as well. The gaoler's ability did hold a side effect however. She would never age past that of a hatchling, which meant she'd never be able to fend for herself. She didn't mind that, as to her it simply meant she could play and live out her life without fear of growing old and 'boring' like her siblings had.
Losing contact with her family meant she couldn't go home however and the healer couldn't keep a hatchling around forever. They began sending word out to other clans in the area- the largest being the Empire of Death. The plan was simply to provide her a place to stay until her family could be reached, however things didn't go as planned. Sheilah had found interest in a mirror working for the Bleak Meadow Prison within the empire. Ulysses seemed sad, nostalgic at times. She didn't understand why, he had a tundra and a gaoler with him sometimes... but that was right, he couldn't see them.
The young gaoler became like a second shadow to the mirror, eventually officially being adopted by Ulysses after the mirror grew rather fond of the company- it reminded him a lot of when he'd raised two other adopted gaoler hatchlings he and his late mate hade found. She showed him the spirits of his mate, Venger and adopted daughter, Echo, in hopes it'd make him happy. However, the gaoler hatchling soon learned that while he missed them, her adoptive father wished for them to be at peace rather than stuck here. Sheilah will sometimes still sees them, but it seems they have for the most part moved on.
Nowadays, Sheilah plays in around her new den while Ulysses is at work or talks with Venger's ghost should he stop by to check in. The mirror refuses to take he despite her curiosity to see the prison- and her supposed adoptive brother, Kai- as he deems it much too dangerous for her. The young gaoler will pout for several seconds before moving on, forgetting the exchange even occurred. Since being adopted by Ulysses, most dragons would say she's become rather spoiled.
