Although he'd never admit it to his clan, Faldor despised the thought of so-called "modern" medicine, with its unnecessary links to academia and odd ways of training. It had almost become an elitist group within the clan, and he hated it. He was still a highly respected dragon in the clan, a member of The Close Circle. However, he could feel that respect slowly slipping away with every new member that joined The Order of Fae and, considering that group was run by one of the clan leaders, he had no chance of rivalling their power of influence. That was the problem with a dragon's long lifespan, they have to watch as the younger generations change the ways things have always been done. Whether it was for the best or not didn't matter, most dragons were stubborn, and Faldor was certainly not immune to this.
The other so-called healers of the clan relied on magic to heal their patients and were adamant that this was the correct way to treat dragons. They insulted Faldor's way of practice and shamed him when he attempted to put forward his own healing techniques. The only Fae who seemingly had time to listen to his ideas were Aguantis and Yasai. Aguantis because she was a leader, and a good one at that, meaning she made time to listen to all of her subjects, but it was Yasai, the clan's undertaker that really had time to listen to all he had to say. Having already been fascinated with death, she found the ways in which Faldor worked fascinating. Truth be told, if she had not already been placed in her role, she would've gladly taken up being his apprentice. Faldor was glad that not all the dragons in the clan saw him as some crazy wannabe healer using mumbo jumbo to try and heal his clanmates because the work he did was far from that.
Being a witchdoctor was more than just healing. It was protection and prosperity. Faldor would not only heal the physically sick but also the mentally. He protected the clan and not enough dragons saw that. Back in the day, when it had been only a few of them, he had been revered. Seen as wise and powerful, someone who could control the weather and aid in the clans foraging and farming, someone who kept his fellow clanmates safe. He was determined to make everyone see this again. To understand that, yes modern healing was useful and needed, but the practices of a witchdoctor were equally invaluable.

Faldor had two sons, Boldron and Inkarius. Inkarius had followed in his father's footsteps, regarding witchdoctory. Faldor didn't want his practices to die out, but he also refused to force his beliefs on other dragons. From a young age his son, Inkarius, had been fascinated with the ways his father worked, admiring his almost mysterious abilities. So, given the fact that not many dragons shared this awe, Faldor had chosen his own son to become his apprentice. This had been met with some backlash, however. He had been accused of trying to keep a dying, unnecessary practice alive by corrupting his own children. Although this had mainly been mindless gossip, it had really gotten to Faldor. So much in fact, that he had even tried to dissuade Inkarius from continuing his apprenticeship
