Freedom
Another of the lady Flamecaller's beloved warriors, the once-guardian served faithfully under his leader Aodh. Until the day he disappeared. Nothing was heard from the Guardian-made-Imperial since his patrols on the border. They never had the opportunity to serve together, due to the difference in their ages. Yet Lonan, as a young Guardian, looked up to the dragon with such reverence.

With the vanishing of his idol, Lonan had to learn to develop on his own. The brawn and brash displays of other guardians, and even his idol, did not seem to suit his own methods of fighting. He had a preference for the shadows, being quiet as he can, but his form proved a great hindrance. The worst hindrance came in the form his charge. As a Guardian, it was a forceful instinct to find something to care for. Trying to guard the borders of the Ashfall Waste became exceedingly difficult with someone tagging along behind. Especially when that someone was a tiny Fae messenger from Arcane. He was barely the size of one of Lonan's small claws. Irritating little pest.

Nevertheless, Lonan did his best to please the Lady Flamecaller. To make his life easier, he found the assistance of a Death Seeker to keep watch over his charge whenever other duties called. But the pestering little runt always insisted on tagging along.

Retribution would follow, to his own delight. Freedom from his charge. Forever. Satisfied with Lonan's services, the Flamecaller gifted him beyond his wildest dreams. He was called into the burning halls of the Great Furnace, the annoying little Fae still right at his tail.

Receive this gift, young Ember, and be free. Close your eyes, and feel your fire burn.

The Guardian did as he was told, hearing his Death Seeker squawk as it left its perch in his horns, finding some other place to land. Inside his chest, Lonan felt an intense heat. It would have burned any normal dragon from the inside out, but being born of fire himself, it did little more than make him sweat. When the heat died, little else seemed to have changed, yet when he opened his eyes, the room appeared significantly larger. The Flamecaller herself towered above him unlike how she did before. He was... smaller?

Looking down at his paws, he realized they were no longer the big, hulking limbs of a Guardian. Rather, his arms had grown short, but his hind legs supported his weight fine on their own. Two large claws curved from his feet, deadly in their own right. No longer was he a Guardian as he had been born, instead now bearing the resemblance of a Wildclaw. It was the greatest gift he could have imagined. Where once his form hindered his ability to fight, now it would aid him. With speed, and silent flight, he could protect the Ashfall Waste like never before!

Without even a thought to thank his Lady for her kind gift, Lonan used his small but powerful wings to fly silently through the halls with speed he never could have mustered in his previously hulking shape. He had gotten halfway across the Molten Scar when he realized he was not alone. The tiny Fae, now more closely matched to his own size, was right behind him. Without a thought or a hesitation, Lonan's new found claws claimed their first victim. His metaphorical chains to the Fae were broken. There was little chance the small dragon could have survived the attack, with the rage and frustration that fueled it, followed by the satisfaction of seeing such pain.

Standing there over the body of his victim, Lonan's teeth gleamed in a snarled grin. It was short lived, as a sudden, maddening pain threatened to tear him apart. There was regret, agony, hopelessness, every sort of emotion that could accompany the loss of a loved one. The Wildclaw roared out in his own fury, writhing on the ground as he tried to escape such feelings. It made no sense! He was no longer a Guardian! Why should he feel such shame for failing to protect the dragon who was once his charge?! The Wildclaw writhed and thrashed across the ground until something snapped inside.

If he could kill his own charge and escape consequences, what was to stop him from doing anything he wanted? Even his own instincts could not put him down. They would wither away, just like all other life on Sorneith. He would be the raging flame, blotting out the sun itself with smoke.

In no time at all, clans from the Viridian Labyrinth to the Southern Icefield cowered before him. Such power coursed through his veins, and it seemed as though nothing could stop him. Inflicting fear to those around him became second nature to him. The Death Seeker that remained faithfully at his side assisted in his reign of terror as a sort of omen. Any who witnessed the singed bird would succumb to the flames.

Witnesses turned to victims, rumors turned to stories, and though his casualty list continued to grow, few could claim to know the foreboding dragon. With time, a name arose to give name to an otherwise nameless terror.

The Shade.

Reminiscent of the terror that once plagued the planet, something only the deities could fight off when they teamed together. What hope could mere dragon kind have against such a fiend?

Stories of these terrors reached to the deepest depths of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and to the ears of a particular Imperial, one who once bore the emblem of fire. To protect his own loved ones, he departed from the waters and hunted down whatever this creature might have been before it could pose a threat to the family that gathered around him. All he needed to do was follow the charred landscapes. Though the small dragon that he found was not one he had ever seen before, he knew the dragon despite.

"Lonan! Why do you cause such destruction?"

The Wildclaw did not respond, instead choosing to fight. He was faster than the Imperial expected, but he was not off put. Fire magic had little effect on him, and he quickly subdued he upstart dragon. Instead of kill him, he gave him a choice.

"Return to the Sea with me, and I will teach you to control such strengths."

"You could be so much more."

It took a moment, but the young Wildclaw conceeded the victory to his master. He would learn what his past idol had to teach, and he would become stronger than he had ever been.
