Biography

Chirp was the last of the dragons that decided to cross the veil into the Ashfall Waste. The mate she took was not originally one of their own, but rather an anomalous creature in the form of a dragon that could be assimilated into their clan... and that was exactly what Chirp had them do. His oily, greenish tint would be the first color variation in their next generation of offspring.

She was tending to the ward bowl when Shiver quietly approached her.

Behind them, OilWings and NightSight, the twins, hung from the ceiling, their long bodies coiled around the stalactites hanging from the high ceiling as their red eyes watched over the area carefully. They both lowered their heads as Shiver passed them, who lowered her head in turn.

"How are you, sister?" Chirp asked as she approached and they greeted one another.

"I am well," Shiver said as she lowered her head, a respectful gesture. "How is the ward?"

"Stable," said Chirp as she moved some of the stones. "The offerings left by the oracle clan have been quite helpful." She sighed, turning away from the lava pool to face Shiver.
"You don't think these dragons mean any harm to us?"

"I do not believe they do," Shiver said. "I examined the totem again, it appears the runes they inscribed are symbols for harmony and peace." She paused for a moment, her glowing eyes looking somewhat troubled. "I actually think they may be trying to help us in some odd way."

"Native dragons? Helping us?" Chirp didn't sound convinced. "We were driven from our homeland because the dragons residing there decided we were a threat to them. What would make the dragons here any different?"

"I don't know," admitted Shiver. "But these dragons are not like the dragons from our world. Perhaps they aren't as cruel to what they don't understand."

"Perhaps." Chirp looked at her queen gently, revealing that she was worried. "And what of the dragon from the darkened forest clan? You changed him. Do you think the dragons will be alright with that, or will they be angered and turn against us."

"I didn't harm him," Shiver said. "I simply altered his genetics slightly in order to make him a match." The lifted her head and folded her wings neatly as she stood. "We need the genetics of native dragons in order to successfully integrate into their society so that we can survive. I will deal with any backlash from that clan. In the meantime, we need to look into the Oracles to find out why they built this totem and why they are leaving offerings. Char will be heading to where we think they are residing to speak with them soon."

"Please be safe, my sister." Chirp reached out slowly and adjusted Shiver's bone crown, gently brushing her mane back.

"We will," promised Shiver. "This is why we have our wards. If anything goes wrong, we will retreat and come up with another plan of action."

She brushed her tail against Chirp's flank gently as she turned to leave. Chirp watched her go before turning back to the ward, readjusting the crystals.
