Biography
Aurous bounded gracefully through the Mire's swampy undergrowth. Though it was late in the summer, and the volcanoes around her lair bubbled generously with little heat waves rising from the lava, a cool wind whisked through the trees and chilled her scales, making them prickle in the cold. It was early afternoon, and Ray raced beside her, barreling deeper into the woods, searching for the clearing they had found earlier, one of the most heavily populated and a hotspot for the beastlcan planning.
"Hey, pull up! We're getting closer," Ray called, his breath coming in shallow pants. Despite his training, Aurous realized, he had never been the best with cardio. Being of Wind, though, Aurous had grown up running through open fields, and was no stranger to the concept of speed. She drew up short though, slowing to a walk, as Ray preferred stealth over a sudden arrival.
The duo crouched simultaneously as the snapping of a twig up ahead signaled to the location of their enemies. Now that Aurous was silent, she could hear more signs of a big group of beastclan. Perhaps they were preparing to ambush Fire! Aurous stilled her breathing as she crept closer to the clearing.
Ray flicked his tail at Aurous, the signal to move downwind of the clan. The snuffling had grown louder along with the occasional squawk of a bird and the furious flapping of wings. Aurous crouched lower to peer through the leaves, but the thick brush blocked her view. She and Ray would have to blindly ambush.
She moved around the clearing, edging the undergrowth that enclosed the thicket, and Ray moved the in the other direction. Both prepared to leap into battle from opposite sides. She could just see Ray's tail above the brush, straight up, signaling to hold her place. Waiting patiently, she listened for the location of the creatures. Suddenly, Ray's tail went down, and Aurous leapt through the brush, flailing blindly in attempt to make contact with the creatures.
Her claws connected with an animal, its fur tangling around her arms, the fluff filling her open jaws. Gagged on the copious amount of sheer hair, Aurous whipped around, doing her best to escape the mass of fluff.
The animal turned slowly, grunting with the effort of pulling its hair away from Aurous. She braced for impact, expecting the creature to attack as soon as it's mane was freed. But the claws didn't come. Looking over to where Ray had stopped, she saw his surprised (and guilty) expression.
Instead of attacking, the creature spoke.
"Uh guys?"
Dunes sat in the middle of the clearing, his body wrapped around a short owl in a protective manner. His fur poofed out from all angles, and he quickly lapped at the tangled mess, attempting to hide his obvious surprise. Aside from his ruffled fur and heavy panting, he appeared to be unharmed.
Ray glanced to Aurous, meeting her eye with an amused and guilty expression. It was time for them to go.
