Biography
Ray is no stranger to love. He even once took a mate, but eventually, their love ended in a mass of heated quarrels and expensive lair changes. During the time it lasted, though, many of the clan (even the youngest hatchlings) wondered if Ray really loved his mate.
The truth is, Ray had never really loved her. It was a side scheme at money-making for the lair; a few of the elders joined together and found a similar female in an attempt to trade the couple's hatchlings to other lairs. Their plan fit exactly what Ray's soon-to-be mate had in mind, but Ray himself felt differently. He yearned to have hatchlings of his own, but he wanted to raise them himself, and have them in the lair with him forever.
The disagreement led to their raging brawls after their first (and only) litter. Instead of trading their hatchlings, the elders sent them to work for the Flamecaller in order to prevent more fights. However, it caused a deeper rift in the relationship, and Ray's mate left in a storm of cursing.
So I suppose it didn't matter that Ray had kept a secret crush for Aurous the entire time he was mated since his mate ended up leaving anyway. But he has had this crush for a long while now, even before he switched flights, when both dragons were just younglings looking for a fight in the coliseum. Who knows? Maybe he will have hatchlings of own one day with the dragon he really loves.
