Nightmare...

Meets Possessed

He was out of place in this land of greenery and life. He only brought bad luck and deaths, so it seemed. Yet, for some reason, Possessed wished to linger in this specific grove. His ears flicked to attention, taking in each and every noise around him. Convincing himself that he'd pick up and leave the moment he heard the tell-tale approach of another dragon.

For the moment, though, he soaked in the scent of fresh flowers and clear water around him. Truly, this was a beautiful place. He was a tainted speck amongst the greenery and he was aware of this, yet and still, he wished to remain.

Then, there- Footsteps were approaching. It sounded as if they were of a dragon similar in size to himself. He should leave- Stand up, walk out of the grove, not let himself be spotted. But... He was so awfully lonely if he was honest with himself.

Something almost seemed to whisper in the back of his mind to stay... Not leave... Allow himself to be spotted. So- For once, he did stay. Sharp eyes watching as another Imperial emerged into the clearing. The other seemed a bit taken aback at seeing Possessed there, and he couldn't quite blame them. He wasn't exactly a sight that blended in well with the surroundings.

Sweeping his gaze over this other Imperial, Possessed ducked his head in a way he hoped came off as a greeting alongside a way to say 'I'm not a threat.'

When the other Imperial didn't retreat or attack right away, Possessed took that as a small victory. Allowing himself to observe a bit closer, his gaze swept over the other curiously. Taking in the coverings and the vines twined around the others wings and tucked into folds of fabric. "Hello there?"

Startling at being spoken to, Possessed snapped back to attention and raised one paw in a greeting. Then, in a way that he hoped conveyed what he was trying to, he pointed to his throat while opening and closing his mouth. No sound emerged while he did so, therefore he hoped it properly informed the other that he was unable to speak.

After a moment or two and a curious head tilt, the other looked to be pondering the motions before a rumble of a noise left him. "Ah, you cannot speak, can you?" In response to the question, Possessed shook his head slowly. A certain sadness flashed across his features momentarily, hidden by his masks and furs.

Then, much to his surprise, the other Imperial padded closer before settling down somewhat nearby. "It seems like you are a dragon in need of company. Is this alright?" Taken aback and caught off guard by this honestly very true statement, Possessed could only stare for a solid few moments. Then, composing himself, he slowly nodded to confirm this second statement.

Up close, he could tell that this unusual stranger who held no unease around him had a certain air of something slightly off as well. Perhaps that was why he would be so eager to share the space of a dragon such as Possessed. "I am Nightmare. Is there any way I could inquire your name?"

Possessed blinked slowly before taking out an old and worn stone tablet from the pouch hanging at his side. He scratched out a short message before holding it out towards this Nightmare. 'i am called Possessed.'

Not seeming to question the name, Nightmare gave a nod of acknowledgment and glanced back up at his face. "A pleasure to meet you, Possessed."

... That truly was a first. Practically none considered it to be a pleasure to be in his presence. A strange tightness had settled in his chest, and he tore his gaze away from Nightmare. It would do him no good to get attached to a stranger- ... He would stay for a while, though. Not knowing where or when he'd get a chance to share space with another that was unafraid and not weary of him...
