fauxralle was raised no different from the other kids. the fact that he became the most powerful dragon in sornieth the second he was born didn't put him on a pedestal.

they weren't going to let that happen again.

with bated breath and desperate hopes, they realize that he's a good kid.

at the age of 10, he fully knows the tale. he's known it for years now—the story of the heroes conesus, donovan, and aberash is still a bedtime story he asks for (he wouldn't trade his ma's soothing, deep voice for anything, but it's pretty damn cool to hear it from the saviors themselves)—and he's well versed in his history lessons.

he knows about the "deities". about how they killed the beasts, drove them away, claimed themselves gods. amassed a following so large and so powerful that it could rule over everyone. over the entire planet.

he knows about the long years the beasts spent in hiding, the deepest hatred, the death.

he grows up in a fairly secular household, his ma and pa teaching him about every element and instilling in him a respect for each one. while he himself doesn't know any different, he does know that his upbringing is one of a new generation.

maybe this time, they'll do better.

it's at the age of 13 when fauxralle begins to fully appreciate the irony that was the lightweaver.

she preached about truth and honesty, about the importance of a neutral party. his pa once told him her little catchphrase she liked to say, that "we are the beacon that shines for our world." that her followers would call her "my fair lady".

he cringes every time he hears it.

the lightweaver had been a self-obsessed, power-hungry dictator, just like the rest of them. she'd condemned the other flights and creature for her own gain. she'd sent millions to their sluggish deaths under her rule. she'd used all of her sick power to back-handedly create a breed that would revive themselves and mindlessly kill, all in her name.

she was as far away from fair as you could possibly get.
