The story starts with a hatch of Flambebes being taught to forage for plants by their parents, Eridanus and Jubilee. The family were led by the clan scout, Inigo, an earth dragon from Dragon Home who had come to the Ashfall Waste to live with his childhood friend, Jubilee. Now, the name Ashfall Waste is quite misleading, as there are many locations within the territory that grow all kinds of delectable vegetation in abundance. The Scorched Forest is a prime example, and it is here that the family of Flambebes and the scout had walked to in hopes of a fun day training the newest addition to the clan. In a horrible turn of events, Jubilee, his mate, and Inigo were attacked by remnants of The Shade, known to be scattered across Sornieth. It was unknown that remnants of The Shade lurked so close to home, and it was the Scout’s job to know these sorts of things.

As The Shade approached them with its tendrils of chaotic and all-consuming power, the family knew this was it and began to prepare for the worst. Eridanus held out her wings to shield her babies, and Jubilee tried to keep the hatchlings calm by making them laugh. Inigo, in a split-decision, used his earth magic to distract The Shade from the family and instead target him. Once the family saw what Inigo was doing, Eridanus and Jubilee threw their babies onto their backs and took off for home, leaving Inigo behind to die. But, Inigo was not afraid. He blamed himself for this.

‘If only I knew The Shade was here...’

‘If only I had picked another location to gather in…’

His last thoughts were that of wishing the family of Flamebebes made it back safely. Then, all Inigo felt was pain and he blacked out.

Next thing he knew, he was in the presence of Flamecaller herself. Everything in Inigo’s body was in immense pain, and it took everything he had to keep himself awake. Right as Inigo started to lose consciousness again, Flamecaller spoke.

“IT PAINS ME TO KNOW REMNANTS OF THE SHADE RESIDE IN MY TERRITORY. I KNOW WHAT SACRIFICE YOU GAVE TO SAVE THE LIVES OF THE HATCHLINGS AND THEIR PARENTS. THE SACRIFICE YOU GAVE TO ALLOW THEM TO SPREAD KNOWLEDGE OF THE SHADE TO OTHERS. THE SACRIFICE YOU GAVE TO PREVENT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN... “

Flamecaller spoke with a powerful voice that shook Inigo to his core. He was in absolute awe to be in the presence of the goddess of fire.

“..I HAVE RESURRECTED YOUR BODY IN HONOR OF WHAT YOU DID. YOU ARE NO LONGER AN EARTH DRAGON, YOU ARE A FIRE DRAGON, AND YOU NOW BURN BRIGHT WITH THE COURAGE YOU DEMONSTRATED IN A NEW BODY. LIVE YOUR NEW LIFE AND CONTINUE TO PROTECT THOSE WHO CANNOT PROTECT THEMSELVES.”

And once again, Inigo blacked out.

When he next woke up, he was lying in the Scorched Forest where he had last stood to distract The Shade. Inigo pulled himself to his feet and tried to make his way home. He stopped shortly for food and water when he saw his reflection in the water.

His patterns of greens and reds had been replaced by markings of orange and blue. Bright hues that shone light off his feathers and skin, and illuminating the area around him. Inigo witnessed then that was blessed by the flamecaller and given a new body to replace the one that had perished to The Shade.
