Diabla
Shade Demon

"Life is but a thin veil before death."

Origins - Old, dried blood and red, flayed skin all hidden away under dark cloth; garments which rub and scratch and tear just as much as they protect. Diabla won't remove them, oh no. She needs to stay covered. A small price to pay for the power she gained. A fair trade in her mind. Diabla always thirsted for power. So she sought it out and she found it, locked away by those who had hoped it would never come to the light again. Diabla took the dark remnant into herself and like mold infects a leaf so it spread over her body and soul. And the power she gained...oh the power. Diabla delights in it every day. With such a power, she can commit atrocities better left unsaid. Or games, in her eyes, puzzles made from pieces that were never meant to be apart. On days where Diabla is feeling more generous she feeds bits of the remnant into others to spread its suffocating hold. A lucky fate, she says, that she's willing to give up a bit of her power for them. Of course this power binds them to her, allowing to spread her control through their minds and bodies. Diabla gains more than she loses. And there's always more power to be had...more waiting for her to unlock and take in just like the first...
-by unknown author

The dragon flitted down the dark hallway. Torn, dead lips pulled back over ancient, glistening teeth. It was time to eat. She crept up close to the unsuspecting dragon in front of her, ready for a feast. The first bite pierced the skin, and her teeth loosened the fat from its bones.

Ravenous as a grey wolf, the little pearlcatcher tangled herself in her prey's tail as it lashed like a chain wielded by a slave master, the sound of it against the ground a drumbeat. Talons, new-grown and razor-sharp, punctured the other beast's armour, allowing her to rip it away as hunger drove her to fervour.

THUNK! Against the wall. THUNK! Beneath her quarry, against the floor, cold, hard granite, dizzying, as they writhed. Over and over she was tossed, a leaf against the storm, but still, she would not be shaken loose. And ... clawed her way to its soft underbelly, ignored echoing cries of fear and despair, the crash of sorrow beating against her ears. Biting through, she gorged on guts and fetid stomach contents, burrowing...

A final surge of desperation from the dragon she sought to conquer, its body heaving in an attempt to shake its parasite free, and she slipped... grip loosened.

Not now. Not now. Not now she had the prize right there. She knew it. Its fragrance was ... delicious. No! She would have it, and grimly, she regained her purchase, tooth and claw, fraction by fraction as her food began at last to succumb, life force, bright as stars, draining. Quicker. Quicker before she lost the essence.

There! The delectable morsel she sought, the sole fragment she'd quested for through times immemorial. How long had it been? Flashes of insight, long hidden beneath the quagmire, surfaced, bubbling up through her insanity and insatiable blood fever. Once, once, she had not been this thing, this craving fiend set upon the earth and it had consumed her just as it would soon absorb this creature upon whom she would feast. Kill or be killed. She had no other choice.

Then, before her, the heart, that great organ powering life, slowing, sluggish but the very thing she had searched for so long. Within its depths, she could see that sliver her own flesh craved, the fragment to make her their mother. To end her isolation.

Personality - • So far, Diabla has not shown any greater scheme to her crimes. She does what she wants, her thoughts subtly tweaked and guided by the remnant's desire to grow its scope.
• One of Diabla's first victims was her old mate, Loki, whom she killed in a fit of rage. She still wears his eyes around her neck. Before he died, he was infected by the Shade inside her, and she could see whatever he did.
• As with her mate, those Diabla infects she can see through and, to some degree, control. It's not much but enough to cause havoc when she puts her mind to it.
• Her skin is literally beginning to rot off her body. As Diabla has lost most of her sense of touch, she doesn't feel this occurring though she's aware of it visually. She uses the excessive amount of cloth to hold what she can to her bones.
• Diabla originally swallowed the remnant, which was no easy task. It has now since migrated to other parts of her body. She can feel when it moves.
• Jealous • Cruel • Power-hungry

Mate - Let’s hear about your dragons mate! Or maybe their mates? If they have no mate(s) then feel free to brag about their friends! Or perhaps complain about their enemies?

You ask about the stars, hmm? Very well, let us study your guiding signs... You were born under a minor sign of the Arcanist, the Galaxy Descending. And you were Light-born, were you not? Though not much of the Light seems to linger about you now, if you will forgive my saying so... Ahem. Light is an element of confidence and knowledge, but also of blindness. As the season of the Arcanist draws to a close, you may find secrets coming to light, or else that you come into possession of new knowledge. Bide your time, Galaxy-Born; the time to act on this is not now.

Now for your cards...
You asked what the stars hold. This first card represents your current state, where you stand now. It is the Ace of Cauldrons inverted--the overturned chalice. As with all Aces, the Ace of Cauldrons is a sign of new beginnings, and more than that a sign of fortunate prospects in love, of a life brimming with emotion and experience. Overturned, its meaning is subverted. Now the chalice is empty, loveless--this can mean many things. Perhaps it means that your emotions are suppressed, or that love which ought to be turned outward is instead directed solely inward. I cannot speak to your circumstances, but the overturned cauldron suggests that you live a life which is lacking in love and gentle passion.

Now for your second card, which represents the road that lies before you, the immediate future. You have drawn the--oh. You have drawn one of the major cards: Death. Now, take heart; Death is less grim than it first appears. It represents endings, yes, but also change, transformation. It is the end of one tale and the beginning of another. A great transformation lies ahead of you, for good or ill, and there is no escaping it. After all, there is no stopping Death.

This final card represents your destination, your final fate, if you will...and perhaps the outcome of this monumental change that Death prophesies for you. This card, the Six of Cauldrons, and turned upright, this time! This is a very fortunate card to draw. The Six of Cauldrons is a card of innocence, simple joys, childhood revisited, and--perhaps most importantly--overcoming grief and suffering. It is the answer to the catastrophic Five of Cauldrons, which prophesies terrible loss. The Six of Cauldrons suggests that in your future lies an answer to the overturned chalice of your current state. Ahead of you lies freedom, pleasure, joy, a return to innocence, and--yes--perhaps even love. Not a bad card at all, I'd say!
Altogether, this draw suggests that there is a great change in your future, but one for the better--in my opinion, at least. With the Death of sorrow comes the birth of joy, and there is overflowing happiness awaiting beyond that barrier. But Death is never easy, and perhaps the transformation will not be easy to weather...
