"The natives built an obelisk."

Shadow and Shiver sat in the large room before the warding bowl, deep within their den. Their black hides were barely visible save for the scattered orange and red light cast upon their silhouettes from the lava before them.

In her hand, Shiver held a small piece of Sacredite. She slowly placed it into the obsidian bowl with the other gems they'd collected.

"It appears to be a reconstruction of our own totems used for warding, but it lacks the magic," continued Shiver. "Instead, they seem to be using it to leave offerings."

"What do you think its purpose is?" asked Shadow.

"They know we are here," said Shiver. "I believe they may be trying to contact us in a peaceful manner. The obelisk appears to be a beacon to draw our attention, and the stones they are leaving at its base are all stones we can use to strengthen our wards."

"Do you feel it is wise to speak with them?"

"Not yet." Shiver turned away from the lava and the warding dish. "We will wait until we grow in number in case it is a trap. We have at least three neighboring clans right now, all of which are at least aware of our existence here. Once we have grown stronger as a family we will reach out to the clan that built this totem, but until then, we remain in the darkness. In the meantime I want you to keep an eye on the totem and the dragons who built it. Zothommog will be keeping an eye on the neighboring clans."

Shadow nodded. "I will bring back any offerings they leave at the totem and see if I can determine which clans are leaving the offerings."

"I believe it is only one clan," Shiver said. "The totem bears too much resemblance to our own to be an accident. These dragons have some kind of insight."

"Oracles?"

"Of some sort, they must be."

"What of the dragons from the darkened woods?" asked Shadow. "Could the messenger you touched have helped them uncover information about our kind?"

"They are not the oracles," said Shiver. "I do not believe they could build this totem, however they have been growing in number as I'd hoped. They have the ability to produce suitable mates, which will help us to grow in turn."

The two dragons left the underground room, heading back for the surface.
