Lineage

Biography

When they were hatchlings long ago, Glinda and Orane were inseparable. They shared their food, practised for the coliseum together, even slept in the same nest. Orane decided that she would live like this in their lair together forever, because surely there was nothing better than this.

Glinda thought differently, however. She wanted to go see the world. She wanted to meet all the dragons she could, and help them, and she wanted Orane to come with her. Orane refused. They fought each other for real, perhaps for the first time ever. It may have looked like a hatchling's scuffle to the adults, but to Orane this was her fight against the end of everything.

Glinda won, and Glinda left. Orane refused to leave, her bitterness and hate growing with her over the years. When her clan was destroyed in a battle against a Water clan, she fought until the end, and only the rushing tide was able to move her. The water carried her deep, deep down, into the darkness. It crushed and twisted her around everything she'd ever felt, and then it let her go. She awoke within Clan Dragonblight's territory, having been found floating by an allied Longneck clan working with the Lightning ambassador on their first spring haul. She stayed at Shriek's lab only briefly, for her appearance turned out to be nothing to do with the Shade, and was soon directed towards the main clan with a short letter explaining her condition preceding her. She asked who the letter was being sent to.

On learning that Glinda was the Light flight ambassador, who would receive that letter and start planning for her to settle in, Orane cried so fiercely that Shriek considered keeping her another night. On meeting Glinda, and realising her oldest, first, only friend didn't even recognise her name on Shriek's letter, Orane could only laugh.

When Glinda asked what was so funny, at first Orane had no idea what to say.

Then she introduced herself, and said she simply remembered a punchline from a joke she'd heard a long time ago.
