Caramon

RUBIN (roo-bin)
When Caramon was born, he had markings just like his parents and siblings (pre-Kiveri's accident).

That all changed one day, when the family was making a trip to the marketplace, a Ruby Webwing crashed into Caramon.

In its claws was an Iridescent scroll, that's magic took effect once the bird collided with him. After getting its barrings back, the bird quickly fled, and a merchant charged up to Caramon and accused him of sending the bird to steal from them.

Of course, Tamose stood up to defend his son, and soon an argument broke out. Not wanting things to get violent, Caramon offered to have Tamose just wait with the merchant, while he went and tracked down the bird so they could get answers, the merchant begrudgingly agreed.

It didn't take long for Caramon to track the bird down, for its wing was injured in the collision and it slowed the bird down greatly. When Caramon approached, the bird let out a cry of alarm, and Caramon realized: This bird could speak dragonspeech, just like his father's familiar, Ta'Let.

Caramon calmly assured the bird that he wasn't going to hurt it, and that he just wanted answers as to what happened. The bird admitted that his name was Rubin, that he was owned by a mean Pearlcatcher that forced him to steal things from people so he could resell the items at a higher price, and that he was terrified that the Pearlcatcher would hurt him for loosing the scroll.

Caramon assured Rubin that he wouldn't have to return to that Pearlcatcher, and that he would protect Rubin from any harm if he came back him to the Merchent to explain his story. Rubin agreed.

Touched by Caramon's kindness, Rubin stayed with Caramon, even long after his previous owner was tracked down and caught, no longer able to hurt him. His is completely loyal to Caramon, and the two are inseparable.
