Biography

Dusty Marigold kyrith

"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Donec a imperdiet eros, eget pulvinar quam. Aliquam tempor condimentum faucibus."
──────────✽──────────

From hatching, her timid and kind nature had charmed just about every member of the clan. While her siblings embarked on their own journeys through the lands, she alone stayed behind, playing with the familiars and helping with anything she could. Not once did the thought of leaving pass her mind until she was asked when she would begin her Search. To her shame, she realised finding her charge had barely even crossed her mind. What an excuse for a guardian she was. Setting out on a Search sounded terrifying, but she wanted to give it a try.

Her first departure was a warm one, with a sendoff party and a lot of well wishes. The clan didn't have many guardians, and yet all had shown up to see her off on her Search. She didn't want to disappoint them, and so she steeled herself. "I'll find my charge, and come right back," she promised. "Your charge might not be portable, you know?" "I know. I'll come back anyway."

Every step she took caused the anxious knot in her chest to tighten. Her claws trembled, her wings shook, and every scale on her body told her to turn back and go home, where everything would be right. She made it across the bay and to the Reedcleft Ascent before she finally gave into the urge, and flew back far faster than she'd left.

Glacier, who had been guarding the entrance, perked up at the sound of her wingbeats. "Find your charge already?" Kyrith crumpled to a heap right at the doorstep, and shook her head. "Figures. Well, you're always welcome back here, so take your time."

Kyrith stayed for another week before she was off again, gently pushed by the encouragement of her clanmates. Her wings took her over the Windswept Plateau and to the edge of the Ashfall Waste, and then they took her right back to their stretch of starry forest next to the coast. Exasperation met her, but that was fine. She was home, where she was safe, she knew they were safe, and she could stay here for the rest of her life without complaint.

This time, she was shoved out the door. Gently, of course. Kyrith had been a sweet hatchling and no one in the clan could bear to be forceful. "You can't be a guardian without a charge," her mother gently chided. It made sense, and so she gave it one more try. And another. And another.

She trudged back into the clan hall, pride as tarnished as her mud-covered hide.

"Back again?" Insa barely looked up from her work, this time. Kyrith made to shake her head, but stopped herself. Insa wouldn't see it, and she didn't want to dirty the floor any more than she already had. "I don't want to go on another Search," she mumbled, head hanging low. She'd never be a full guardian, like this. But as long as she didn't have to leave any more times, she could withstand anything.

The position of entrance guard was split between her, Glacier and the clan's contracted Tigerblood Foo. She was here to stay, now. She had a part in the protection of her home, and she'd never felt more complete. When she'd admitted this, however, Glacier choked. "Perhaps there was no need for a Search after all," he'd laughed, simultaneously pained and amused. Kyrith didn't understand, but she figured she didn't want to know.

left home on search to find charge, but ended up coming back every time due to nerves or failure or wavering determination. charge ends up being clan itself
