Osteolaemus, better known as Osteo, was hatched from an egg abandoned to the dark reaches of the Tangled wood. He spent the majority of his life under the care of the dryads native to the region, and considers the spirits of the wood to be his family.

Osteo possessed a close relationship with nature, and spent much of his time mastering his mimicry of every living thing he could find. Things would have continued this way for a long time, if not for his discovery of the Shade. Even in its earliest stages, Osteo noticed the ways the Shade influenced the Greed.
This marked a change in his life, wherein he began closely monitoring and studying the Shade's presence in his homeland. And eventually, he managed to track it down to its source. The Covenant of Ichor.
The Covenant offered him unity with the Shade in order to preserve his relationship with the new order of the Tangled Wood, in exchange for his services patrolling and reporting whatever he could outside of the Covenant's lair.

Osteo's extensive connections with the Tangled Wood's spirits and lands makes him an invaluable asset for monitoring the wilds, especially given how much time he dedicates to his task.
Additionally, it makes him the perfect candidate to maintain the Shade's grasp of the local region and its fauna.

Although he only stops by occasionally, he is well-known by the residents of the Covenant, and well-liked by those who can endure his talkative nature.

Male
A stubby Gladeveins Needletooth that Osteo rescued from a lost trap. Due to its time spent in the confining ropes of the trap its scales are marred with long dents and scars, and its snout is permanently bent upwards at the end. Despite this, Snooper maintains a very active and snappy attitude, and joins Osteo on all of his travels. Seems to particularly enjoy taking flights in soft pouches and other snug garments.

Bound Trinket

A carved slab of wood taken from a tree charred from a battle ages past. The front prominently features the face of the dryad matriarch who brought peace and prosperity during that time, while the back depicts all of her closest friends and family, together in a group huddle, including a very young Osteolaemus nestled in her daughter's arms. The wood is well-polished and dutifully maintained.
