Biography

Andiron
an-dirh-ahn
Kind | King of the Toxic Wastes | Peacekeeper
tumblr_inline_nwr25y7WeU1sgemal_250.png
Though named King of his lair and effectively the clan leader, Andiron only takes it upon himself to allow new members into the clan and try to settle disputes when they arise. Beyond that, he lets the others do as they please, leaving various important decisions to clan members who better fill those roles. He mostly acts as a figurehead to give the clan a sense of leadership; he'd much rather approach things as an equal, not as a king.

Graveyard Guardian The Graveyard Guardian that prowls the outskirts of the Toxic Wastes knows allegiance to no one but the Plaguebringer, but seems to respect Andiron as a Plague leader nonetheless and keeps watch of the territory for him. When the creature roars, the clan knows to hop to their feet and prepare to fend off attackers - if any are even left.

Backstory

When he was young, Andiron was part of a Plague clan which prided itself on its number of Imperials. They had forgotten their past - the dangers of their very beings - and come together in defiance of the elders who would tell them to do otherwise. They believed in their superiority over others and sought to make an impressive stance in the Wasteland. Andiron, having never been taught of the dangers to begin with, joined the clan in all eagerness. He felt he had found a true home for himself.

In the wake of a bountiful Riot of Rot festival, the clan was attacked by rivals intent upon finding weakness in their revelry. Ultimately, the clan had the upper hand, and for most of the night they fended off their foes without a single casualty. The rivals were determined, though, and full of energy; as the night wore on, the tide turned as Andiron's clan could no longer keep up the fight. All it took was for two of the Imperials to fall - then the fight was brought to a complete halt.

The corpses rose from the ground, and in a horrible display of twisted magic, they fused together into one massive, grotesque being that possessed both of their heads - an Emperor.

The behemoth carved its way through every dragon in sight, gaining more mass with each consecutive Imperial it cut down. The rival clan, already in retreat, lost a good chunk of its members even as they all attempted to fly away. The Emperor was too massive to outfly for most of them, impossible to outrun, and incredibly difficult to fight - each dragon who attempted to stop it was brought down like the rest. Andiron, only a juvenile and in no shape to go up against such a beast, could only hide in a nearby burrow as his friends and newfound family were torn apart and smashed back together into a demonic hydra with no intent of stopping its rampage.

By the time Andiron met Ankarv and Tox, who helped him found the Toxic Wastes Clan, Andiron was alone and had been for some time. He told them bits and pieces of his past, but never revealed what happened in the wake of the Emperor's attack or to the beast itself; only that he had left that place and never returned. As he dug the tunnels of their lair, he expressed a mild interest in Necromancy, reasoning that if a slain Imperial could be brought back and moved elsewhere before any others fell, an Emperor would never be able to rise. By the time more dragons joined the clan, he had gained an Amulet of Necromancy, always hidden beneath his beard.

Though always afraid of having too many Imperials around, Andiron is part of a happy family, mate to Queen Vail and father to the heir, Vennon, as well as three other sons who connect the Toxic Wastes to the Ice clan Stillsandur - Linu, Litost, and Nasrin. He loves them all dearly and remains close to each of his children as best he can.
