Tokoyami

Name meaning: Tokoyami (常闇) is a Japanese name that contains the kanji for "everlasting" (常 toko) and "darkness" (闇 yami), which can be read together as "eternal darkness."

Imagine Tokoyami with a smol squad of screechy babies that have him like "why me" but actually he would be a good dramatic edgy birb dad who takes on this responsibility of parenthood like he's Batman adopting Robins. He just has all these teeny peepers hanging on him and he's standing there stoically monologuing, "It is my burden to bear and I will do justice by them if it is the last thing I do."

and his friends are staring at him in mild concern because "oh man, has fatherhood really gotten to him already?"

Tokoyami is a rather mellow Skydancer in part because he feels so much of the world around him that it is like a weight on his shoulders sometimes. He has claimed that he fears there is a piece of the Shade living inside him, but no one is certain if he is being serious or not.

He spends a lot of time in dark caves or dens where he can contemplate in peace and work on taming his inner demons (as he calls it). This is where he happened upon Xaldi for the first time and they formed a rather close friendship through mutual understanding. She didn't mind his brooding so much and he appreciated her quiet company. Plus, he admired the fact that she had a shadow of her own that she managed to coexist with. In a way, it gave him a small amount of hope that all was not lost for him.

So, when Xaldi approached him one day with a soft but firm request that he assist her in watching over something very precious to her, Tokoyami felt obliged to offer what he could....... but he had not been expecting her to tell him it was a nest... and the tiny screeching children that would hatch from it. He spent some time conflicted by this request. He could not see himself as being fit to be a father in any capacity, so it was hard to understand why she was placing her trust in him with something as important as another life... or three... or five... or eight... or ten... thirteen??? WHERE DID SHE EVEN GET ALL THESE EGGS FROM?!

But once the nest hatched and the hatchlings started clinging to him, staring at him with big eyes and stumbling around so helplessly, it was like a switch had flipped within him. He finally understood what had to be done. "It is my burden to bear and I will do justice by them if it is the last thing I do."
