Ker carries his first horror with him, in a very literal and personal way. Before receiving his name, the juvenile male encountered an impression of the Shade, one that ravenously devoured everything in its path. Without any Gaoler companions, he was forced to combat it alone, though this quickly proved beyond his skill and ability.

He allowed himself only a single day to recover from his injuries, but by then the horror had left an ugly scar through the landscape in its wake, consuming living and unliving alike. He knew he had to do something before the abomination was able to continue growing, and so he faced it once more.

The young male had always struggled with the nature of his elemental alignment, finding that he often unwittingly killed weaker creatures and plants simply by being in their vicinity. If his soul longed to overpower and dominate other living beings so badly, perhaps that could be put to use against this dire enemy.

He met the abomination at the peak of a hill as it tore apart the last remnant of an old forest growth, roaring his declaration of challenge. The entity overwhelmed him, swallowing him and moving on.

But he was not destroyed.

The Gaoler began rending and consuming the horror, and gradually he found that it became smaller and smaller. Once it was too small and weak to carry him any longer, it attempted to flee, but was unable to escape him.

Although Ker is of the Keeper order, he still keeps a weather eye out for any manifestations of the Shade, and is a formidable opponent due to the abomination he hosts, as he can employ it to devour even other horrors. The only problem is that these feedings presumably strengthen the entity.

And until it overpowers him, there's no way of knowing how strong it is.
