Just where Mel was born is hard to say--the acolytes who found him did just that, found him when he was just a boy. Mel doesn't feel like he was abandoned, or really orphaned either. He had more parents than he could count after all in the temple he grew up in. Home for him was in echoing halls, with voices lifted high in prayer and exaltation. Mel has a lot of pride in where he grew up, perhaps that was his undoing in the end.

Headstrong since his youth, while Mel could grasp the studies of his religion he never seemed to be able to quite hold onto the Faith in the way that would grant him clerical prowess like so many of his teachers. Though he prayed for blessings he lacked the wisdom to properly yield such magic. This was a great blow to Mel's pride, one that he was not keen on delving on. So, when he reached the age of eighteen, he left the temple behind in an attempt to seek out the answer to this mystery. He could not be what was wrong after all.

He'd always had a way with music before taking to the road, but finding himself short on coin and missing the luxuries of his home Mel leaned into dancing. He changed his name from the one given to him at the temple, Flicker, to Melodious to better suit that of performer. He didn't abandon the moniker entirely of course. He was not one to completely spit in the face of others

Stumbling into leading a Clan was never something Mel had expected--nor wanted, if he was to be honest. They called themselves the Clan of Proud Voices on the Wind. Heh, how utterly pretentious. He didn't rise to leadership, it was dumped in his lap, and Mel was not a grateful leader.

He would be lying if he said he handled it gracefully, but he passed his leadership to other hands. He had his own work to do, after all. He wanted to entertain, to find coin for himself and to travel where his heart took him. Leading a Clan did not fit into that.

Then there had been the uprising. He had watched good dragons die. Former friends die. Something in him just... couldn't believe how bad he had let it get. Even his mate at the time, Entropy, had left him. Disgusted with Mel as much as she was heartbroken.

He never wanted to be a leader, but here he was.

Finding Almasi was... unexpected. Mel had had many mates, but none felt like they matched him or pushed him in quite the way she did. She'd come to the Clan broken, bloody, beaten within an inch of her life. She had bared her teeth at him, and he had thought her some wild thing who cared little for life.

He hadn't been entirely wrong.

Somewhere along the way of helping her heal from her wounds and playing her music to soothe her to sleep, something sparked. She had never been meant to stay, but she did, and without question stood to stand next to Mel where she could.

He wouldn't have it any other way.
