Biography

C O A L

THE EMBER-BORN

Legend tells of a small being whose youth was preserved by falling into a volcanic flow.

Coal's name came about after a mispronunciation of the Draconian word Coatl. After the young dragon learned what coal also was, they adopted the name as their own. When Coal came into the world, a hatchling of two draconian parents, they were purest black, with gentle orange eyes.

The youngster was adventurous and boisterous, with a habit for exploring his habitat, which was seething with dangers - primarily the blistering hot lava flows. Nothing enticed them more than the languid flow of the ember-lakes, and the way that it would bubble on, uninterrupted by anything which stood in its way.

When they dared to finally touch the lava, they discovered that it brought them no pain. It was almost pleasurable to coat the feathers of his wings in the liquid, and watch it solidify only to shake it off moments later. The lava became their primary source of entertainment, and they spent numerous days and nights almost entirely submerged, swimming in it as though it were water.

It came as a shock to everyone when the molten rock began to seep through the pores of his skin, and become trapped under his epidermis in eternal vigour, glowing and moving as though it were still beneath the plates of the tumultuous earth. Ever since the thin veins of magma appeared on his form, the youngster has not seemed to age...
