Biography
Dorian "What is dead may never die." |
Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife. Nascentes morimur bloodline - "From the moment we are born, we begin to die." This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Vigil's children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain. |
Lore notes: WIP
He had awaited death like a friend; death however was not so eager to make his acquaintance.
Dorian had nearly drowned as a pup, took a nasty tumble while exploring the cliffs of the Shifting Expanse as a young adult. Each time, just as he thought the rawness of his broken body must soon abide, replaced by the second chance his mother and grandparents had encountered, he awoke in the care of concerned others, dragons nursing him back to health, and he was very much alive. Dorian knew painful recovery after painful recovery before death would eventually meet him.
When death did take Dorian it had been so swift that he hadn’t anticipated it. A stone of the Beastclan had struck him in such a way that it was an effortless transition. Unlike before when his body had fought off death with instinct and claw, his actual death remained dreamlike and ambiguous. It was not until the surreal apparition of a cat had met him, had awoken him from his gray sleep, that he appreciated that his time had come. The beast asked for his acquiescence to accept his second chance at life over the blankness of death. Dorian seemed to realize that this cat was not a cat at all but some powerful entity, perhaps from the same vein as those that had met his ancestors, and the visage of the cat was only an image that his mind settled to comprehend.
He understood at once, and he agreed; finally ready to welcome the second life he had for so long awaited.
