Parentless, Aevitas brought himself up in the harsh nature of the Emberglow Hearth, relying purely on his own wit, determination, and strength to survive. Brought up by himself, he grew up ignorant of general etiquette and of the value of diplomacy, and his brutally honest nature and lack of diplomacy made other dragons uncomfortable and he was soon abandoned, if not forcibly driven away. He still bears the scars from those encounters, and although in the beginning he covered them with a burlap hood, he eventually accepted them as much a part of him as his horns. After enough rejections, he reconciled himself to the fact that he would never be accepted into any clans. However, his need for a ward kept him restlessly journeying around the Hearth, the solitary years and suspicion of other dragons causing him to grow as immoveable and harsh as the fiery pools of lava that he lived amongst. After many years, he encountered Nymue, whose cheerful and playful antics managed to endear her to him. After encountering several other lost or rejected dragons, the misfit of society and 'scum of the earth', what became a band of dragons that only remained together for mutual benefit gradually became a motley clan- the Duronne clan. They were named so because their clan members were not known for their beauty, skill, or wit, but more for their ability to survive and endure. Having finally found a ward in his clan, Aevitas stopped his aimless wanderings, and the entire clan settled in the Great Furnace. For many years, the Duronne Clan flourished, but Aevitas soon noticed that their lair could not hope to possibly accomodate rapidly-growing clan, nor would the land be able to yield enough food or supplies for the large group. After calling for a Gathering, the old Guardian ignored Tranquility's pleas to try and be diplomatic, skipped any preamble, and told the clan to prepare to move elsewhere. As conflicted as he was himself about abandoning the lair that he himself had created, he tried to remain resolute, and so appeared deaf to the clan's pleas to reconsider. Frustrated and angry at what they saw to be his apathy about their well-being, there was talk of a Challenge being issued when Aevitas fell ill. Nestridden, his plans to move elsewhere ground to a halt, but the peace that returned was uneasy, many voicing their own greivances. Tranquility soon flew away, partly to escape the growing commotion, and partly to see if he could seek out a cure for the sick Guardian. Without Aevitas or Tranquility to mediate their disputes, minor concerns grew unchecked into raging wars that threatened to separate the clan. At the same time, a strange storm occurred, confining all the other dragons within the lair, which only grew more and more tense. Having to face each other constantly only added kindling to the wildfire, and soon enough, the entire clan fell apart, with more than half of the clan leaving, including Aevitas' beloved Nymue. Although the Guardian soon recovered from his strange illness, he was heartbroken at the separation of the clan, and spent many weeks just aimlessly sleeping in his den, during which time Hasamelis, having just returned from a short stay at his birthclan, became the unspoken clan leader. Although nowadays it is more common to see Hasamelis attending to the clan's matters as the Clan Leader, Aevitas is still acknowledged as the clan's Patriarch, having fathered the clan on his own. He can commonly be found alongside the the Imperial, advising and guiding Hasamelis. Aevitas is impatient and hot-tempered, never quite having learnt to keep the company of dragons despite having started a clan on his own. He is irritated by having to dress up his words when he thinks the meaning is plain- he will call a spade a spade quite loudly-, and combined with his short temprament, makes his company excruciatingly difficult. Consequently, there are few dragons who can tolerate his presence for any longer than a few moments. Despite this, he means well for his clan, and watches it flourish with a secret pride. Trivia:
