- somer misssed home. she missed the sea, she missed the beach, and yet here she was in the plague wasteland. somer heaved with wet rasps, breath hot with the stench of sickness, as she slunk to her tiny space by andy's workshop. thank goodness the grime and pustules couldn't take hold on her opal-covered talons. she swears she would've gone insane otherwise.
- the mere thought of it sends a wrecked sob through somer's body. everything that happened that day- nearly getting attacked by a scavenger, running from a buzzwing vampire, tripping on a bone and landing face-first into contagion- everything flashed through somer's head until she was a sobbing wreck curled on the ground. Not even her tears, it seemed, could wash away the filth.
- somer just wanted to go home. she wanted to swim without a worry in the sea of a thousand currents, to be clean, to be healthy, to just be free. she wanted nothing more than to escape- so that's just what she did in her dreams.
- most nights, somer falls asleep lightheaded and uncomfortable, deep into fantasy stories in her head to keep herself sane. and some nights, these fantasies seep into her dreams, and somer is rewarded with exactly what she wants. an escape- albeit not real, an escape nonetheless.
- somer dreams of walking, tired and wretched, through the wastes. but as she lifts her head, a cliff edge is near- and below that, after nothing but ugly reds and greens, is the beautiful blue ocean. her weariness rubs away as somer approaches, faster and faster, until she's jumping off the cliff edge into the comforting embrace of the waves. in the air, somer transforms, and as she hits the cool water her burdens leave her like a shed skin. no longer are her limbs sore and wrangled. no longer is her skin blistered. instead, she is elegant, fast, powerful. and more than anything, she is free.
- even if just for a night, even if it's just a dream, somer wakes each morning believing it to be real. possibly because of her desperation, possibly because she's deluded. but that's fine with her. as long as, in her dreams, it can be real.
