Description: "Oh, oh, I get it! So, like, you make them dance or something, right?" "Wh... What?" "With magic or whatever, you make them move around." "Oh, uh..." Ruby clutches the item a little closer to their chest. "No, no, I don't." "...Oh. Then why do you have them?" Ruby feels something catch in their throat. "I... I just like them." That's mostly true, anyways. Ruby does just like plushies. But, after a certain age... Others stopped wanting to hear that. They all liked hearing that Ruby could sew, but not that they only learned to because of the rips old toys would develop. Or, they all liked hearing that Ruby had their own home, that they'd decorated themself, but not that every cushy surface had at least one stuffed-something comfortably slumped over an arm or lounging on a pillow. Plenty of dragons have hobbies, sure, but the moment Ruby has their own... It can't just be. And Shadowbinder knows that Ruby certainly can't bring themself to tell anyone how cute the little round eyes are, or how soft they've managed to keep all the fabric and fur with this one trick, or how they picked up so many from places they'd been discarded and left to be torn apart, or how each one... has a name. To be honest, it always hurt to think of them with names, with all that joy of hatchlinghood returning, but the embarrassment of the present getting dangerously close to pushing it out of the Gaoler's mind. But, Ruby remembers, curled up in their bed, plushies beside them, that it's not all bad. What they can do for their own plushies, they can do for other's, and plenty of similar hobbyists and parents with hatchlings have brought plushies in states of disrepair or filth for them to restore, good as new. And they're always so excited! They call the plushies by name, and happily recall memories, and there's never a shred of embarrassment on their face in front of Ruby. It's the exact same way Ruby is around their friends, the close ones who will laugh out a "sorry, Blue Paws," when they have to move a plushie off their seat. They don't make Ruby feel bad for gushing, or just having and enjoying something for the sake of liking- no, loving it. Because they've got the same sort of love for their shell collections, or their gardens, or their favorite plays, or their fish tanks, or their libraries... The Gaoler wishes that they felt that free all the time. Not caring about judgement, or justifications, and just letting their own love for everything they have and everything they've done speak for itself. Because, really, shouldn't love be enough of an answer for everyone?
