The trick with Gladstone, Lege was quickly finding out, was to feed it something it wanted to eat more than whatever it was attacking in the moment.

"I wonder..." Lege glanced down at the stack of dirty cauldrons under the table. Some had not been emptied properly and bits of hostile-looking goo and sludge dripped and pooled menacingly.

It turned out that the Snarling Mimic was happy to oblige, licking the lot of them spotless in no time. Lege gave them a quick rinse with soap and water, just to be sure.
