Notes from Field Researcher Mirale:
Normally I don't observe hive activity in the Viridian Labyrinth on account of it being a bit dangerous for me, but this was a special case.
HIVE01 produced another Primal-eyed drone. This one was not the offspring of the first GENESIS model, but instead the child of two regular drones. That said, it was no less dangerous than the one called "Stygian". I've read the reports on that one, written by Traveler...it corrupts life, turning it into something monstrous and unrecognizable. But this one? This one calls itself "Life" and it does the opposite. It creates new life, and enhances some of the preexisting life around it...on a very, very large scale.
The ground trembled beneath its power, its will commanding the force of nature to overtake all that came before it.
Its creations devoured land and creatures alike to bolster its unyielding growth. With each step it took, more plants around it would flourish, vines and exotic flowers spiraling out of where its claws has touched the ground. Plants continued to grow outward as it searched for a place to make its home, nature quickly and violently tearing apart land, thorned vines choking trees and weaker plants, sapping their nutrients to become stronger. Even the clans that ran from the rapidly-spreading overgrowth were ultimately consumed by Life's reclamation. Fighting back with magic or claws was hopeless, like battling a disease for which there was no possible cure. Those that tried, perished.
It was...terrifying. Multiple times I'd had to move, to flee, to avoid being impaled on a stray vine that shot my way, or to narrowly escape being devoured by a carnivorous plant. Ultimately I had to fly up through the jungle canopy, far above the destruction. I spotted other dragons that had the same idea, but they didn't remain to watch the carnage left behind in the wake of Life. I, however, did.
The sea of overgrowth parted only for Life as it walked the land, searching for the ideal place to begin building its hive. It was like watching a god - no, something else completely alien to this world at work. Only when it stopped in its tracks did the overgrowth change direction as well, the plants carving out the beginnings of a hive and growing a tall, thick, tangled mass of trees that grew past the canopy and over the pit being formed. The ground continued to rumble and shake for what felt like an eternity...until it all stopped. The jungle was still, it was silent.
All that life...and yet the territory felt dead.
Forget consciousnesses becoming GENESIS models. We have much bigger things to worry about.
