Biography
they/them and he/him
"Mum! Mum! Come look what Unca Kas'mir brought!" Enkidu was ecstatic about his Gearspring Pocketmouse, winding it up and running after it, hollering "Adelante!" and laughing uproariously. "Hmmph," Rialto muttered in an undertone. "I wish he'd bring back something practical for once." "What do you mean, dear?" Gallineo was incredulous. "Enki will spend hours chasing that thing around. I bet he conks out early tonight!" She was met with silence before Rialto strolled away. |
When Devanado arrived, Enkidu enthusiastically wound it up, anticipating twice the fun. Unlike its counterpart, Adelante, the Wind-up Pocketmouse spun around in unpredictable circles.
"Is it broken??" Enkidu's sad face looked to his mums for comfort. Shrugging, Gallineo put on a sympathetic smile and turned to her mate. |
But Rialto was intrigued. "No...no," the Imperial held up a claw. "Enkidu, go get it." Enkidu dutifully ran after this new toy, but while it didn't get far, he found it surprisingly difficult to catch.
Rialto confided in Gallineo, "I think...I think it is a strategy toy. A direct path will not always win your quarry. I will have to thank Uncle Kasimir." Satisfied with her asessment, she left Gallineo standing in wonder.

The red Snapper Nutcracker emerged from a pile of torn tissue paper. "It's a Snapper, like me!" Enkidu crowed at his "uncle" Kazimir's gift. "You'll be Gilgamesh and you'll be my best friend forever!" the little Snapper grabbed his new wooden nutcracker and ran out of the room to play.
"Doesn't he have friends?" Rialto turned to her mate in confusion. "They're OUR friends, Rialto. And we travel so much," Gallineo could see Enkidu's perspective. She had been wondering about it. "He has no other friends...his age," she concluded. |
"Does he need...a sibling? Like him?" Rialto liked to face situations head on.
"Rialto! Not everything in life requires 'fixing.'" Gallineo paused to think. "But we can discuss it, if you think there is a problem we can address."
Sometimes, sometimes time provided the best answers to life's questions.

A Precocious Child wrote:
The precious eternal-child of Rialto & Gallineo, Enkidu was a handful from the day they hatched. Beloved of their parents as well as their adult siblings, Enkidu's main talent was for getting into trouble. This kept Gallineo in a constant state of anticipated dread. Enkidul's favorite thing about their eternal youth was that they got to travel everywhere with their mums. As one of two merchants for the clan, Gallineo traveled to every festival to conduct trades, accompanied by her spouse, Rialto, as guard. (No one, I mean NO ONE messes with an Imperial that size!) |
Upon occasion, the Matriarch also assigned the little family to discreetly escort someone on personal business. ("Oooo! A secret mission" was Enkidu's take.) Luckily for everyone, Enkidu was as intelligent as they were curious and not afraid of hard work, though they were likely to talk their way out of an assigned task if they found it boring.
Their curiosity led them to follow Whizbang when the Fireworks Designer met with Sky Pirates during the Trickmurk Circus. When the little snapper understood what was in the works, they scurried out of the pub and found themself a hiding spot on the Jolly Rhymer before anyone was aware. |

Vespera found Enkidu stargazing up in the crow's nest, just as she knew she would. When The First Mate had sent her to hunt him down, the coatl had been dead on his feet himself. She had urged Davnan to get to bed and now there was only Enkidu left. She came up behind the little Snapper and simply hummed:
“Enkidu dear,
The stars will wait But sleep c'not” |
The boy huffed in protest. “...But I’m not sleepy!”
“Oh worry not; I’ll fix your woe. You’ll be in bed that fills with dreams That rob your head of heavy streams” |
She sat down next to Enkidu and softly stroked his head:
“As night drapes over the horizon,
And birds go silent with the breeze
The sky turns black, not compromising
With the fading light of day.
We hush our songs and lower sails,
We go below the hold with tales.
The gusts of wind, they lull us fast
Because the darkness just won’t last.
They rock our ship like baby’s cradle
We’re soon as sleep, simply unable
To resist their charm
Like baby lambs that go with ewes.
And so the moonlight kisses eyelids
Of all the tired, weak and cad
Together with the stars that dance
Above the floating ships’s mast.”

Spinning the same lullaby, again and again, Vespera strenuously carried the green bean to bed after his eyes didn’t sparkle with starlight anymore. After all, they all had to rest after so much work on the ship and Jamboree.
After the Party wrote:
Later that night, when Vespera noticed Whizbang slipping away from the party, she had to withhold a chuckle. The spiral, already small for their breed, had little Enkidu draped over their shoulders and was bent double by his weight. Instead, she went to assist her crewmate with their burden. As she approached, Enkidu's little snores were carried to her on the breeze.
Whizbang chuckled as they accompanied Vespera on board.
"Dreams are a heavy weight to bear, I see!
Allow me to carry the lad while you go free. I am ready to go in to my own rest, As for you, I think beside the bonfire is best!" "Ah, no mate, but thanks!" Whizbang whispered so as not to rouse the sleeping Snapper. "He's not bound for th' ship tonight! S'happens th' Jamboree is near t' th' wee one's clan an' 'is mums are 'ere t' take 'im 'ome." They turned away from the ship and headed toward the edge of the bamboo forest. |
Turning, Vespera saw two dragons emerge from the bamboo. The first, a blue Snapper, was eclipsed by a towering golden Imperial. As she watched, Whizbang greeted Enkidu's parents who quickly transferred the lad to the Imperial's wide wings. With a leap both sudden and silent, the Imperial took off into the sky, while the blue Snapper bade farewell to Whizbang and headed back into the bamboo. Vespera greeted her friend as they returned to where she stood beside the Jolly Rhymer: |
"Many questions are twisting in my head,
But tomorrow must suffice, for now I'm to bed!"
But tomorrow must suffice, for now I'm to bed!"
Whizbang chuckled as they accompanied Vespera on board.
"Oh, aye, t'bed now we go, you an' I.
Rest we right require, for tomorrow we fly!"
