PERSONALITY

An extremely controlled individual, Aleister is forever aware of the risks of getting too caught up in things. A great believer in the virtues of moderation in all things, Al cultivates relationships specifically with individuals he believes will help him with that - such as his familiar, the poltergeist piano Bartolomeo, or his close friend and colleague Acherethusa. Aleister is well aware of how easily he can lose himself in the pits of research and has done what he can to put checks and balances in place to manage that.

However, moderation doesn't mean "No fun allowed" - Aleister is known for sometimes going out drinking with Stelias, enjoying the bard's tall tales and humorous nature, in stark contrast to how controlled he is when working. Many dragons find the sudden ease and energy of Aleister out of work to be striking, but he insists it's always there - it's just different in different circumstances.

ABOUT

It's a relatively quiet day in the lab. That tends to happen when his project is plants - he's not nearly as outlandish in his research and he only even uses the lab sometimes. Honestly, he'd prefer to be in his office, carefully picking through his books and bookmarking notes for his next paper but... well.

Today is a very special day.

Acherethusa had teased him when he'd been given his gladegift, laughing that he was Plagueborn and a researcher of all kinds of deific magic and wasn't it striking that the Gladekeeper, of all the Eleven, had decided to make a note of him and send the halo of plants his way?

She may have had a point - it certainly was unexpected - but he thinks he understands why. Plague is survival, after all, and Nature is flourishing growth. They're flipsides of the same thing, mirror images of one another. And, unlike many Plagueborn, his interest is in the nature of all forms of godly magic; he does not prioritise Plague before anything else. Indeed, if anything, he is more willing to dabble in the magic of other flight's than his own - he has never been wholly comfortable with Plague.

Perhaps the Gladekeeper is trying to court him - he has considered that. He has heard of Plagueborn carefully lured away with gentle, stubborn gifts, things at once hateful and admirable for their being of Nature, but he has never thought such things hateful, merely different and interesting.

Gently, around his head, his gladegift turns.

It's a beautiful thing, really. It's not nearly as grand as the gladegift that adorns Caustic, but then, though Caustic is Iceborn, he is utterly dedicated to Nature in a way Aleister knows he could never be. Of course the gladegift Caustic bears has flourished under his tending, garlanding his wings and giving off a pollen that energises the plants of the gardens and occasionally takes seed to birth some Natureborn cultivar for Phoebe to coo over.

Aleister's remains much as it was, carefully tended and certainly loved, but small, a mere floating halo, the occasional vine touching his skin to leach what it needs from him - when he does not touch it himself.

And, to be fair, he does. That is, after all, why today is such a special day.

As he sits there, a mug of tea in one hand, the pen for his notepad in the other, the cutting he'd carefully taken, and planted, and cultivated, finally starts to bloom.

Quite how long Aleister and Acherethusa have known each other only they know - but it certainly seems a long time with their utter ease and how many past projects they reference in conversation. The two naturally gravitate towards one another in work and while neither feels much romantic inclination, they have had several nests together.

A skilled enchanter of stone, Aleister enjoys talking to Carnelian about her unique methods - ones which the rest of the clan struggles to replicate. While she works more with the craftsdragons than with libraries or researchers, the two do enjoy one another's company and have tea together once a week.

Few people expect for a fae, of all breeds, to be the clan's most renowned bard. Perhaps a very few people more expect Aleister to have downtime - or that he'd be so energetically different when he is Stelias brings it out in him.

One of the two Emperor heads the clan guards, studies and tends, Aleister finds their primal persistence fascinating. While he would love to study Warfarin in greater detail, the dragon's virulency makes that unwise - while at times Gwalchmei is almost lucid.
