He circles me, both heads grinning as they study me from all sides. "You look just like her." A thrill runs through my chest and I stand taller.

The coatl that lays off to the side flicks his tongue. "She doesn't," he says flatly, crushing my sense of pride.

One of the leader's heads lunges to snap at the coatl who hisses back, but doesn't move. "It's close enough," Mercury's other head says, still watching me with those searing red eyes. Both of his tails undulate, writhing over the ground like snakes. "Enough to scare her, enough to make her think she has seen a ghost, but not enough ground to refuse her shelter."

One of his heads cocks toward me. "Go now. Blend into the Clan." A wicked smile creeps over both faces. "Soon we will have our revenge.
