Biography
No one is quite sure how this abomination was introduced; whether it had been the fruit of a conscious, albeit misguided effort at experimentation, or a natural conclusion to the overwhelming force of the hivemind. Regardless, the densely populated living conditions and the lack of individual fighting strength of the Eboncrow has made them the perfect target for this brand of misfortune to spread among their species. The resulting assimilation is--while imperfect--is difficult to visually separate from the genuine article when offspring is produced.
Their erratic movements, and varied viral strains make them a difficult target to pin down and dangerous to boot, especially in the face of a (or several) commanding Ravendrone(s). Without a Raven-class drone, they will behave like a common drone type and lack signs of individuality or sentience in their actions. Their attacks will be focused on overwhelming their opponents through the sheer force of their persistent numbers.
Due to their plague-heritage and the contagious nature of their abilities, Crowdrones are often utilised as tools outside of the main hive in order to avoid accidental contamination with the consciousness. Those seeking to resist the hivemind have been known to use their presence as a determiner for narrowing down possible areas of their whereabouts. However… this is risky, as the drone adopting the consciousness role may not always be susceptible to this virus, and it is not to say they may not be Crowdrones themselves...
Drones with rune-like patternation point to their Eboncrow origin. Their viral strain is odorless and more immediately fatal compared to its bolstering-blood frenzying cousin. When paired with a Ravendrone, they are able to control the dose that is distributed to their victims. In small amounts, dizziness, nausea and confusion and thrashing are common symptoms that may not necessarily lead to death. Larger quantities can overstimulate the heart and lead to a quick death in a matter of minutes.
