Biography

A History of the Clan

Era One - Beginnings

Wandering. Stormlight and and Azurecloud, then mirrors, wandered the Starfall Isles and picked up a small group of lost dragons. Most of those dragons have since left the clan to find their own destinies, but a few dragons remain from this era - Reason, the tactician, Enchanter, the historian, Auxentius, the firstborn of Stormlight and Azurecloud, and Spectre and Wraith, a pair of strange dragons with wounds that will not heal. This was a simpler time, when the clan had few worries.

All of this changed when Charade joined the clan.

Era Two - Glitches and Aberrations

Azurecloud has always been a wanderer, and in his wanderings he often returned home with dragons that needed a place to stay. This was the case when he brought the fae Charade home. Charade is a shy dragon, timid and unwilling to open up. Stormlight could tell he held secrets, but was hesitant to pry. But pry she must, when things started to vanish in the clan's small cave, only to reappear in unexpected places.

Charade confessed - He was the great-great-grandson of the Glitch Queen Naomi. As such, he had access to a range of powers - talking to the dead, warping, telepathy, telekinesis, precognition, astral projection, and more that he couldn't understand. Or control. He apologized, he had done his best to stay hidden, but understood the problems he caused, and would leave immediately. Stormlight blocked his path. He needed a home. They would be his home, and they would find him a teacher.

Era Three - The Search for a Teacher

Azurecloud left and began the search for a teacher for Charade. He put out feelers among his friends in other clans, and found success. Regin and Anya joined the clan, both with stronger blood, being the great-grandchildren of Naomi. More importantly, they had control over their abilities, and were able to teach Charade how to control his powers. Several other Glitched children joined the clan at this time - Acrux, Malykris, Amira, Meic, and Karmiu. All great-great-grandchildren, and all looking for new homes. Stormlight was happy to oblige, and for a time the clan new peace.

This changed when Withe joined the clan. His powers were strong, much stronger than Regin and Anya's, and while he had nominal control he had the side effect of boosting the abilities of those nearby. This was problematic for the young dragons still learning to control their powers, and brought unwanted attention to the clan. The descendants of Naomi were hated by some, and hunters were sent out to eliminate Stormlight's growing clan.

In fear they fled the Starfall Isles and settled in the Shifted Expanse for safety.

Era Four - An Influx of Strange Dragons

Hidden deep in a dusty canyon, the clan of Stormlight had found it's purpose. They would take in those that were persecuted and hated for their strangeness and give them a loving home. They would shelter and protect and teach, and they would show no fear of the Glitch Queen, or the Shade.

It wasn't just descendants of Naomi that joined the clan during this period. A child of the oldest dragons in Sorneith, Virtus, joined the clan. He took over tactician duties from Reason and now trains the young dragons of the clan in combat and strategy.

A trio of dragons from one of the oldest clans in Sorneith also joined the clan, Darkheart, TwilightWhisper, and SereneMoon. Quiet and reclusive, the three keep mostly to themselves and don't interact much with the wider clan.

The clan gained a group of dragons dedicated to guarding the clan, most notable are the sister Belladonna and Datura, Naomi descendants who use their warping abilities to devastating effect in battle. Their uncle, Rot, helps corral their bloodthirsty tendencies.

With defenses in place the clan grew and prospered.

Era Five - Necromancy and Fire

The reputation of the clan as a safe place grew, and they continued to take in Glitched children until the walls of the canyon bulged with their numbers. They would need to find a new home, and soon.

The opportunity came when a very strange group of dragons asked to join the clan. Led by the necromancer Ghast, this group had already formed their own small clan made up of Ghast, Wisp, Phantom, Mariya, Anju, and Nisa, and were looking for a clan to shelter them. Ghast approached Stormlight with a proposition. They had found a home deep within the Ashfall Waste, but they were too few to claim it.

Stormlight and Azurecloud traveled with Ghast to the Ashfall Waste and found a decrepid mansion built into the face of a mountain. It had everything the clan would need; rooms and a large kitchen in the front, a huge library and rooms for research and teaching, and more importantly, miles of secret tunnels underneath where their Glitched members could practice their abilities without fear of being discovered.

With Stormlight's blessing the clan moved, and began a new chapter.

Era Six - An Inn, a Mansion, and a Basement

With so much space and new teachers available, the clan divided itself into three groups. The first, made up of those with few powers or from non-glitched lineages, opened an Inn, with they named the Oasis, as a place where weary dragons could rest their heads for a night. It also served as a front to hide the secrets deeper in the mansion.

The second group, formed of researchers and those with their powers under control, flocked to the library and it's collection of esoteric books, and researched ways to help their bretheren to control their abilities.

The third group, made up of those still learning, took to the tunnels, where they would practice and simply exist in peace. A smaller subgroup formed here too, the Resurrectionist's Circle.

Led by Ghast, the Ressurectionist's Circle aimed to control the rift in the veil in the dark caves beneath the mansion, where life and death overlapped. Dragons that had passed were raised from the dead, and souls that wanted to pass on were assisted. Stormlight disapproved, but begrudgingly accepted their presence. She was only nominally the clan leader at this point in time, anyway.

Era Seven - The Rift

The Rift between Life and Death had long worried Stormlight. It was volatile, and required constant rituals to ensure it stayed closed. Her worst fears came to pass when the Rift exploded in a fury of ice and lost souls. The heat of the Ashfall Wastes were overcome by frost as spirits and ghouls flooded from the Rift. The clan was forced out of the mansion to tremble at the base of their mountain home as the Resurrectionist's Circle tried desperately to close it.

All hope was lost until a strange dragon landed in their midst. He was another great-grandchild of Naomi, and he been called by the Rift. He was the child of Adam, and his blood was strong and true. With his assistant the Rift was closed, and Uilbheist joined the clan.

Stormlight was still uneasy however, and sent her mate out to scout for a potential place to move the clan.

A New Soul Emerges

Deep within the misty space between Life and Death a lost soul wandered. Having slipped from his nest and into the space between Life and Death, this soul possessed powers he had trouble controlling, able to summon or repel fellow lost souls. But he wasn't a lost soul, not really. He was there bodily, and the time spent in that lifeless space changed him, shaped his senses until he was able to hear the whispers from the tiniest fragment of soul.

The Rip in the Veil called to him, and he went. He found the scar where the rip had been, crudely sewing together with ropes of spells. He could tell at a glance that they wouldn't last a year. Acting on instinct, he undid the spells closing the rip and slipped through.

He found himself face to face with a clan full of dragons that seemed oddly familiar to them. This sense of kinship was obvious to Starlight, and so it was without fear that she approached the dragon.

"Tell me," she said in a gentle voice. "Have you heard of Naomi?"

Stormlight gave the lost dragon not just a history, but a name. Korvax Willowchilde, the grandson of the infamous Naomi, the Glitch Queen. His powers were raw and undeveloped, but his keen intellect and innate curiousity bridged the gap, and access to the clan's libraries quickly caught him up to speed.

He now researches the Rip in the Veil, pulling lost souls across, those with unfinished business who want a second chance at life. His children leave his clan to find their own destinies.

Demons

The ripples of the Veil being opened echoed through Life and Death, and were heard by a demon, deep within the Death side of the Veil. Anemoi attacked the Rip in the Veil, and Korvax had no choice but to defend it. But the forces of his clan weren't enough to stop her, and Anemoi emerged into the Life side of the Veil.

Korvax summoned several of his siblings to assist in binding Anemoi, and Anemoi found herself trapped in the body of a Nocturne dragon. Desperate to prevent her from escaping, he channeled her power into several eggs, taking lost souls from the Rip and reincarnating them into dragons that he swiftly sent from the clan.

The Space Child

Korvax quickly gained a reputation for taking in strays, and the child Tiffany was no different. She was found in the forest outside of the Mansion after a fierce meteor shower, alone and confused. The clan took her in, but it became quickly apparent that she was no ordinary stray. Corridors rearranged themselves and dragons teleported at random, and attempts to teach Tiffany control were met with frightening tantrums.

Everything changed when she learned the concept of 'birthdays'. She took over the children's room in the library and launched it into space. Korvax investigated, but found himself stepped through an inter dimensional portal instead. On the other end was the children's room, transformed. A ballpit took up much of the floor, overlooked by a tower of furniture that Tiffany sat on like a throne. Only a letter sent to his mother saw him freed, again with the help of his siblings.

The Court of Blood

Frustrated by his weakness, Korvax began plotting how to bring power to the clan. His search brought him home. His mother, Willow, had another clutch of eggs with the fearsome Marduk, and the hatchlings lived up to the power of their bloodlines. He petitioned his mother - Let him take one of these children home, to teach and to help grow. Willow accepted, and Mephyst joined Korvax's clan, which he now named Clan Kyrenthir.

Mephyst tried to fit in with the clan, she really did. Her brother Korvax had gone to extremes to bring her into the clan, and while she was grateful for the opportunities he has provided her, it wasn't enough. There was a voice that called to Mephyst in her dreams, one promising her knowledge and control, things Korvax couldn't give her.

So Mephyst went below the Mansion, deep into the tunnels, and there she found an ancient dragon, bound with heavy chain, in a temple. Lilith, that was the dragon's name, and an exchange of blood brought Mephyst into Lilith's service as a Child of Blood.

Mephyst made her home in the temple, gathering disciples who wanted to share the gift of cursed blood, that gave both terrifying power and terrible weakness. Mephyst found herself burning under the light of the sun, and had to discard all of her silver jewelry, lest it burn her.

But she doesn't mind. She has found a home and a purpose - learn to control both her powers and her blood lust, and figure out what she wants as a person.
