Blood gives life, yes
but blood is not all there is to life

PERSONALITY

All of the clan's researchers are strange, if in different ways, but Relic seems so outwardly normal that most do not quite grasp Relic's exact strangeness.

Relic has never minded, really, fully aware of just how strange they-she can seem (and it is they-she, both at once because she is feminine even in all the parts that make her up, it is just that there are so many parts that make her up and she is aware of all of them) and the clan has never minded much more than is necessary to understand.

Besides, they leave her to work, and let her work with those just as interesting and interested and so, at the end of the day, Relic is quite happy in the clan they-she claims as home. They-she are comfortable in amongst all the other strangeness of the clan.

ABOUT

She started her work not as a scientist but through magic.

Most in their line of work look askance at her for that, even given just how much of their world runs on magic. Heavens and hells, many dragons could not fly if not for magic - and some of them even then - and there are things in the world that magic alone certainly cannot explain.

But magic, Relic has always known, is as good a place to start as any - it just cannot be the only place one ends up.

Magic is in everything after all. Magic sparks over her skin, the runes that coat her hands and feet like blood, her horn made to sparkle like a cerdae's, the lines of runes down her side.

Most struggle to interpret these runes even now, but Relic does not need to try. After all, they are caused by magic as much as her genetic predisposition for magic: she knows well enough what they mean, even if it isn't what the runes say.

She has a knack for this, the magic of blood and body, and so of course it is the magic she first delves into, long before she steps deeper into the arts and starts to study haemopathology.

She studies well, and she studies hard, and she decides, somewhere through it all, that she does not think she is solely a she. There is too much... too much else to what she is and can be, the feeling of all her blood flowing through her body, the way her wings shimmer like blood-tinted glasses, the soft blush warmed by capillaries.

Perhaps, she supposes, she has submersed herself too fully in her blood, sensing every cell. She is feminine, she does not argue that, but she does not always feel like one entity alone, not when there is all her blood, driven to purpose.

Buried in the midst of her magic she, Relic, is subsumed, and they - the blood, the bone, the body, the all - they are Relic instead.

This probably explains why Relic has such an easy time with certain of Bilberrios' creations, as Porcelain comments over one fraught teaparty, where Relic has to bite back one too many comments about Bil's terrible parenting before giving up.

Porcelain is a wonderful dragon, Relic knows. Not many would be so forgiving of others' harsh judgement of one's partner, but Porcelain is not a fool for her Bilberrios, even if Bilberrios is fool enough on his own - she understands why others judge him harshly, and does so herself at times, even if she is also so understanding of why he is exactly as he is.

That can be trying, sometimes, that she understands enough to explain, but it is never an excuse, at least and besides-

Besides, there is one thing they do agree on, so utterly and thoroughly Relic is reasonably sure it would mend the bond of an argument most any time.

The children deserve better, from Panoptes and Brea, eldritch dragonlike beings that they are, to Cenotaph, not fully a person even of on the best of days, to Verbana, left to sip blood from others due to a lack of life of her own.

Chalice and Fauna too, but Chalice keeps to herself, and Fauna is better adjusted than most of the others. So Relic turns her attention to the ones most interesting to her, the ones most alike to her, and looks into help for Verbana.

Perhaps, once a solution is found there, she might find something too for Cenotaph's fragmented sense of self.

RELATIONSHIPS
69493692p.png Tabian | Colleague & Friend

Tabian and Porcelain are by far Relic's favourite colleagues, but it is hard, sometimes, to not say something cutting about Bilberrios'... about Bilberrios. Consequently Relic has long found it easier to spend time with Tabian, who has started to help with the research to help Verbana.

63950173p.png Verbana | Patient

Relic has been quietly looking into potential treatments or solutions for Verbana's haemophagy for some time, but kept it quiet due to Bilberrios' general tetchiness on the subject of his various creations. With his recent attempts to be a better parent, Relic has finally come forward to speak to Verbana about the idea, which was met with a great deal of approval and joy.

20425368p.png Porcelain | Colleague & Tea Companion

Once a week, Relic and Porcelain have tea and discuss their work. For some time this became increasingly fraught and stressful, as Bilberrios' treatment of his various creations tickled a nerve in Relic that made it ever harder for them to bite their tongue. With Bil's recent improvements, teatime has become a much more enjoyable event.

62581983p.png Bilberrios | ... Ugh.

Bil has started to improve. That much can at least be said. Relic doesn't think he has improved enough yet, but in the end that's not really for them to judge, is it, given it's Bil's creations that he's hurt most of all. Still, the improvement means something and Relic's glad she no longer has to bite her tongue to hold back snippy comments.

Enchanted Wolf Necklace Aenocyon | Assistant

Relic doesn't make new friends often - especially not of carnivores - but Aenocyon is a special case, bound within a pendant a patient gifted to her. Uniquely well-suited for sniffing out bloodborne diseases, infections and conditions, he's become a useful addition to her office, even if Jugal doesn't entirely like him yet.
