To be the Guard. This definitely had a certain ring to it.
Onyx always knew she would become one of them - after all, that was what she was born for. What could possibly stop her? Lack of power? She trained properly, displaying some magnificient results. Not smart enough? Surely not after countless sessions of history, physchology, philosophy and other things she had to patiently sit through. Low self-confidence? Onyx could share it with those doubting themselves. Ailment of some sort? Yes... maybe, that.
She managed to hide it for quite a long time, but sooner or later all lies get uncovered. The bandages she was always wearing on her face, seemingly to show how rough and dangerous she was in battle, were actually covering her eyes. Eyes which were not able to stand the sun. The light of the world was blinding for her, so she always tried to avoid direct sun rays, however, it was not always possible. Heartbroken, Onyx didn't get the role she wanted, but in respect for her extraordinary abilities she was assigned as a Night Guard. This was not as prestigious, but at least she still could do what was fitting her. She had to master stealth, and her dark scales were quite helpful as well. Sadly, her ailment progresses, and sometimes even dim light of the full moon makes her sick, but for now Onyx still patrols each night, making sure all the dragons of the Project are safe.
