See how his irises, luminous and golden, shine so brightly in the gloom and look at the way his deft claws manipulate those brilliant arcs of Light magic. His voice, full of faith and belief, rings out as clear as a bell as he casts enchantment after enchantment, growing stronger and louder as each bolt scythes through the darkness. Where his magic touches, tendrils of the parasitic Shade hiss and writhe and retreat. The proud, confident grin on his face widens.

It is clear from the very beginning-- the moment he learned to cast his first spell-- that he was born with great potential, and it was fortunate indeed that he chose to use the vast stores of magic that flowed in his veins for good. Plenty of others have turned their back on this discipline to chase power and wealth but he finds no need for such trivialities. His faith in the Lightweaver and Her knowledge is all he requires, and the look on the faces of dragons he helps is reward enough.

His parents, of course, have raised him well. He learns kindness, compassion, and generosity, and he learns to uphold the truth. Above all, he learns:

The Light reveals.

But there are lessons he must grasp for himself, things that cannot be taught by his Light-sworn mentors and his loving parents; the truth is almost never plain and stark under the glare of the Light, and to try to separate the good from the bad without realising that both are one and the same might be a fatal mistake.

He is young, naive, innocent. There are still tears to be shed, victories to revel in, causes to uphold. In time, he will come to understand that there are dragons who would manipulate him to use his magic to serve their purposes, even if they claim to be as devout to the Lightweaver as he is. He might be forced to trust a thief, maybe even one born of Shadow, and realise that there is honour among the craftiest and most cunning of them all. He could doubt his mentors, the message of the Lightweaver that he intended to spread, maybe even his own purpose.

There is youth still in the firm confidence of his voice and the sparkle in his eye. Whether or not that brightness will fade depends on the strength of his character and resolve of his spirit.

Come what may, once he sets off on his journey, there is no looking back.
