Biography

Virgo had originally traveled to the city of Yul to get a look at their library, especially anything they might have on astronomy. It had been a task set by her then mentor, who had been vaguely incensed by the insinuation that someone somewhere outside of the Starfall Isles might know more about the topic. To be honest, Virgo hadn't really cared. The same way she hadn't and still doesn't really care about stars and space and stuff. She had only gone into the apprenticeship because it was a half-way prestigous profession, utterly unscandalous and not really worth a mention one way or the other. Something to do, a secure path for her, since she had reached maturity failing to find anything that actually draws her interest.

So when the offer had come, to travel some, see a bit of the world without losing her apprentice status, Virgo had jumped at the chance. At that point her restlessness had been so bad she would have paid for something to take her away from the ever-changing monotony of the Observatory. To get the most out of the journey, the respite, she had planned it so that counting both the way there and the way back she'd visit parts of all the domains, except for the Southern Icefield. Unfortunately that would have been too far a detour, something too difficult to justify should anyone ask.

No matter. Ten out of eleven had still been real good.

Virgo had originally traveled to the city of Yul to get a look at their library, so it was to her great bewilderment that she got recruited straight from the market place to help with the funeral arrangements for a young Imperial. An Imperials remains are always a delicate situation, so it wasn't like she could have said no with a clear conscience. She helped cater the body into the woods, went through all the appropriate steps of all the rituals to make sure that there would not be a tragedy because of it later on and then naively thought that would be the last of it.

It wasn't the last of it.

No, a little while later the dragon Virgo had filled in for at the funeral sought her out to thank her. Somehow they got talking, what Virgo's doing in the city, whether she is progressing any, how she likes her work as an astronomer. Virgo admitted she doesn't. All that time away from home had made her careless. For a second the other Fae looked conflicted, then the conversation changed tracks, away, thankfully, from Virgo's personal business.

"And how do you like our city?"

"It's nice." It was. "The library is impressive." Also true.

Her conversational partner flicked their tail.

And then, despite her rudeness, they offered her a job. Not even one as an astrologist, which Virgo halfway suspected had been the initial plan.

She didn't know why she accepted. Still doesn't. Perhaps it's because it seemed like a step. Not a step forward, necessarily, but when you think you'll be in the same spot for the rest of your considerable lifespan, the direction doesn't exactly matter. Which is why, for the moment, Virgo is an undertaker. While certainly different, it is not exactly most peoples dream job, hers included. But that is alright. Once she gets tired of it she'll simply switch professions again. Something for which she may not even need to leave the city of Yul behind. Not saying she won't, she never did get to see all the different domains, but that is a decision for another day. Her life isn't written in stone. Now that she left behind everything once, already, and the world didn't end, that immobilizing fear is gone. When eventually the day comes where she wakes up feeling like it, she'll pack her bags and leave. Virgo has centuries ahead of her, probably, and yet her life is still too short to stay where she is unhappy. She refuses to suffer like that again.
