Lily

A soft melody echoed over the lush fields of the Zephyr Steppes as Lily sat on top of a large round rock, smiling at the hatchlings that had gathered around to listen to the mysterious dragoness that was carefully playing the lute with her gloved claws. Her smile faltered as the hatchlings were ushered away by their mothers, back into the bamboo forest that held their clan. Lily could hear them whispering and scolding their hatchlings, telling them they should stay away from the Skydancer. The young dragon knew that others disliked her presence, simply because of her heritage, being a royal descendant of a violent clan from deep in the Foxfire Brambles. Her locket gave her away, but Lily could not bring herself to throw it out, since it was given to her by her mother the day she ran away.

The melody escaping her lute became slower and gave passing dragons a feeling of sadness and grief, causing them to hurry away from the dragoness playing the haunting tune. All except two, who stopped to look at the young Skydancer. "Are you alright, dear?" A small Tundra asked quietly as he stepped closer. "Yeah... Just thinking, I guess." she smiled with a look of sadness in her eyes. "That's not true, what's wrong, kid?" The colorful Skydancer stepped forward as well, now standing next to his mate, right in front of the large rock Lily was sitting on.

"I guess I am just a bit bummed that everyone dislikes me." Lily sighed and her claw fell from her lute, leaving the dragons standing in silence. "Well we like you! You're a Foxfire descendant aren't you? My name is Arben by the way, and this is my mate Sommer!" the blue Tundra said and motioned to the larger Skydancer next to him. "Yeah... I'm Lily, but why are you this nice to me?" Lily asked quietly. "Well, Arben and I are not the most liked dragons either! Down here in the Windswept Plateau it's better, but most other places aren't as tolerant! I was cast out of my clan because I wasn't interested in dragonesses, so I wandered around and met Arben. He was an outcast because of his eyes!" he motioned towards his mate, who turned his side towards Lily to reveal multiple pink eyes staring at her. "We decided to travel together and along the way we fell in love! The both of us used to travel through Sornieth before we settled down here, but we still love to go on vacation, just to see everything there is! Would you like to join us?" "I am from the-" Lily began, but was swiftly cut off. "Sommer is from the Foxfire Brambles as well! He isn't a royal, but other dragons still sometimes give him strange looks. So please, your music sounds really good and you seem really nice." Arben smiled up at her and extended his furry paw.

Lily smiled lightly as she jumped down to shake his paw. "Then it's settled! We really do need a clan name after all, my love." Sommer chuckled as he nudged his mate lightly, causing the small Tundra to laugh. "Alright, we will talk about it back home." he said as the three trotted over the soft grass towards their home.
