Adman lithely leaps over his opponent. A guardian. Far bigger than him and yet, they fight in the same arena. Hardly fair, but Adman doesn’t care. He digs his claws into the guardian’s tail and slides all the way down, carving the tail into pieces. The guardian howls and begins thrashing, attempting to throw Adman off. He has all eight talons dug, though. The giant may have the advantage when it comes to size and weight, but the underdog almost always wins.
Adman stretches and latches his front talons into the guardian’s spine. She yelps and flips over onto her back, trying to squash Adman. He moves too quickly. In a matter of seconds, he is on her stomach, digging his claws into the soft underbelly. The crowd is cheering. They love the blood. He loves the praise. He doesn’t stop tearing at her until he is pulled away forcibly by the clan guards.
As he is dragged to the clan leader’s hut, he is still fighting against his captors. He wants to hear the praise. He wants them to scream his name. He needs to fight. He doesn’t care what it is, a dragon, a beast, he just needs to dig his claws into something. He needs someone to tell him he’s done well.
Adman is thrown before the clan leader. The older imperial stares at him with disappointment. Adman looks unstable. He is covered in blood and still trying to escape. The clan leader degrees that Adman will be banished. If he cannot get his bloodlust in check, he will never be able to live in society.
It doesn’t matter, Adman decides. He can find everything he needs elsewhere. And he does. He finds exactly what he needs. A clan run by a brutally vicious mirror. A clan where he can protect those he cares about and obliterate those who threaten their way of life. If someone gets in his way, no one will fault him for tearing them to shreds. No problems. No worries. Just strength. Just power. That’s all that matters.
