Helena
THE MUSICIAN

▬▬ ABOUT ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Haruko has always lived a rather secluded and quiet life despite their occupation. While this is largely thanks to Adrienne's careful monitoring and manipulation of their life, it also has to do with their introversion; if they don't have any reason to be meeting with and talking to people, they would prefer to be alone. It's not as if Haruko wants to avoid social interaction entirely, but their job is quite harsh on their social battery. They usually find themself too tired at the end of the day to want to seek out even more social interaction.

Helena is the exception to Haruko's typical reluctance to socialize. Despite the coatl being a chatterbox, the two are familiar enough with each other to understand that Haruko's lack of participation in the conversation does not mean she doesn't enjoy their time together. Though Helena is technically the spiral's private musician, she spends far more time chatting with her than playing music. In fact, a typical evening between the two consists of Helena gossiping, signing rapidly with her claws while Haruko eats dinner.

Most in the clan aren't even aware that Haruko has a private musician. But for those who do, rumors have begun to rise surrounding Helena. Most of them focus on a particular topic, a rumor about Haruko that has become more widespread in recent times: is Helena privy to Haruko's secrets, and how much does she know?

▬▬ ORIGIN ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

It seems odd that Haruko, a dragon who almost never indulges in herself and seems all too busy to have time for listening to music, to hire a full-time private musician. In truth, the spiral is extremely lonely; unbeknownst to her, The Fallen One has made extensive efforts to keep her out of direct contact from most of the clan's population, preventing her from making any friends. Perhaps out of desperation, Haruko hired a musician--Helena-- that would play for her full-time.

Over the years, the two became great friends, closely intertwined thanks to their mutual love of music. They came to appreciate each other's unique traits; Helena, with Haruko's insight and fondness for cats, and Haruko, with Helena's resourcefulness and sarcastic remarks.

But now that Haruko has learned the truth behind their conflicting memories, Helena is faced with a decision. The spiral has been a bit slow to make the connection, but Helena has realized that Haruko's soul guided them back to The League of Valor for revenge against The Fallen One. The coatl knows the great danger associated with becoming an enemy of The Fallen One. She fears what might happen if Haruko decides to finish what was left incomplete in her past life. And as suspicious as Helena feels of The Fallen One, she just can't stand by while her friend wanders ever closer to danger.

Eventually, it becomes clear to her: if she wants to keep Haruko out of danger, she has to prevent her from figuring out the reason behind her return. Even if that means she would be doing something that would benefit The Fallen One.

▬▬ NOTES ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

» capable of playing all sorts of instruments, but is most proficient at playing the lyre

» mute, and communicates through sign-language

» played in an orchestra before moving to the clan and being hired by Haruko

» Adrienne suspected that Haruko hired Helena for company (which she did). While she wants to keep her relatively isolated, it's not in her best interest to deprive her of all social interaction (to reduce the risk of making Haruko suspicious), so she chose not to get in the way of this. That being said, Adrienne keeps an extremely close eye on Helena

» keeps an ear out for rumors specifically about the clan and its members, mostly to help keep Haruko in the loop. She only really talks about them if Haruko has the energy to, because she knows that they prefer not speaking about work-related things in their free time. The rumors aren't technically a "work-related" thing, but Haruko tends to see them as within a similar category as the information she takes in on the job.

» although Helena loves gossip, she doesn't like presenting something as fact unless she knows it is

» she doesn't live in Haruko's house, but she sleeps over so often that it might as well be like a second home to her

» Helena is good at picking up rumors and gossip because she exchanges her own gossip for others'

SECRET
[ WRITTEN BY ASTRAMARU
]

Helena doesn't like keeping secrets.

Specifically, she doesn't like keeping secrets from her loved ones. It comes from the fact that the coatl doesn't like lying either. Not that she can't lie-- Helena is perfectly capable of it-- it's more that she hates the guilty feeling that she associates with it. It doesn't help that she's the honest type, either; the coatl often puts things as-is without sugar-coating or bending the truth.

But even dragons like Helena know that there are times when lying is necessary. After all, one of the caveats of knowledge is that there are some things that some people (or anyone) shouldn't know at all.

Especially when a certain bit of knowledge is the difference between relative safety and life-threatening danger.

The coatl knows from certain rumors that her clan's deity, The Fallen One, is incredibly ruthless and dangerous. However, Helena's best friend, Haruko, does not. Under most other circumstances, the coatl would warn her friend of the hidden dangers lurking within their clan, just out of sight. She wants Haruko to stay safe, after all. But things are... a little complicated.

See, in a past life, Haruko lived within this clan. And though the truth about The Fallen One was a much better kept secret at the time, the spiral's instincts still told them that something was wrong. They spoke out against the clan's deity, questioning why they were weirdly secretive and mysterious. Haruko was immediately killed, and The Fallen One swept their death under the rug. But the spiral was not done. Now that they were killed by The Fallen One, they knew that their suspicions were not misplaced. Furious at their death, Haruko's soul reincarnated and found their way back to the clan.

Although Haruko inherited many of their memories from their past life, they did not receive any context for them; the spiral was completely unaware of what had happened between them and The Fallen One, and why they came back to the clan in this life. In fact, as far as they were concerned, they happened upon the clan by chance and chose to settle there. Haruko did not once suspect that it was, in fact, their own soul that silently guided them there.

After a conversation they had after a meeting, Haruko discovered that they had been to the clan in a past life. And as their closest friend, the spiral confided their odd memories and their realizations to Helena.

It did not take long for the coatl to figure out why Haruko had come back to the clan after hearing what they said. She was scared for her friend, and for good reason; although Helena was unaware of most of what The Fallen One did "behind the scenes," she knew very well that it was extremely dangerous for anyone to make them their enemy, no matter how much strength or resources one had. But Haruko didn't have such knowledge.

In fact, Haruko knew so little about The Fallen One to the point where Helena is almost certain that their ignorance is the reason why the spiral has yet to make the connection; they don't have much of a reason to turn their suspicions to the clan's deity.

But even if their memories are fragmented, their anger never left their mind. Haruko may know next to nothing about The Fallen One, but they still feel angry towards them. Without the correct memories to put their feelings in context, though, the spiral is not sure why.

However, it may not be long before Haruko learns the truth. The Fallen One makes a massive effort to keep their goals a tight secret, but there are still leaks of information nonetheless. There's a chance that the spiral will come across the information naturally if Helena does not interfere.

Unless Helena actively keeps Haruko from remembering, it will only be a matter of time before they finally connect the dots.

The coatl knew that if she wanted her friend to be safe, then she has to hide the truth of their return from them for as long as she can. It pained her, to not only do something in direct favor of The Fallen One, but to also keep such a big secret from her closest friend. But she could not stand by and let Haruko rush into what was sure to be certain death.

Helena doesn't like keeping secrets. But she'll make an exception it if means saving a friend's life.
