The Clockwork Princess

As her inner eyes slid open her mind entered a bright confusion of fleeting colors, motion, and shapes, an overwhelming blur of possibilities. She centered herself, concentrating on the teeming mass of information now assailing her vision. Libra was born with a unique magic, a visionary trait impossible to be taught. Her eyes could see much more than the world in front of her, they peered into an endless range of possible future outcomes and past occurrences. To her, the notion of time began to slip away, everything existed simultaneously. All of it was real for her . . . and none of it was. She garnered the name clockwork princess because she stood supreme over the flux of time, monarch of the shifting expanse of all worldly existence past, present, and future.

This powerful gift of sight came with a cost though, Libra felt it now as her head began to spin and she gasped for breath. The overwhelming onslaught of all these sensations threatened to overtake her. She often fainted during or after seeing, and the prolonged exposure to so many different timelines threatened her grip on reality. More than once, she felt she might be losing her mind. Deep down, she already felt resigned to eventual insanity.

Libra steeled her nerves, centered her focus. SEE. She was looking for any speck of evidence, breadcrumbs to lead her to her target. She had been given a mission to recover a priceless magical artifact before it was lost forever. Carefully she watched as the thief stole in, claimed the item, and disappeared into the forest. The past. Now was the part they had called her for, time to really work her magic. Her gaze shifted towards the future and she saw the thief running, the branches flying past, leaves whipping by her vision. She began to see the image fragment, 1 hooded figure split into 3 shadows in the night. Like the faceted vision of an insect her many internal eyes tracked the possible winding paths of the robber.

"The crag, the forest clearing, or riverdale after that the possibilities become too uncertain to track. I can't guarantee I'll be able to find him again, take him before he makes it past one of those points."
