Mariposa - The Healer
Born to two powerful users of dark magic, Mariposa was taught spells and the arts of dark magic from a young age, and how it could be used for good and for bad. She and all of her siblings save one showed affinity for a particular type of magic each - in her case, healing magic.
When her parents deemed them old enough, they were taken to meet the rest of the Circle. However, whereas her brothers enjoyed the magic around them, Mariposa's attention was drawn to strange, dark tendrils surrounding the dragons - tendrils that radiated wrongness, visible to only herself and her parents. After she returned to the den, Mariposa threw herself into her studies, and rejected every offer by her parents to take her to the Obelisk of Itenya so that she could receive its blessing.
Then, one day, her parents summoned her to their personal den, and told her of a great secret: the blessing given by the pillar conferred great power at the cost of anchoring one's soul to the Shade, where it could further possess a dragon that misused or overtaxed their powers, turning them into a mere puppet of the Shade. This had happened to Lucifer, but after several days of frantic research and sleepless spellcasting, Maleficent had been able to undo the link, while leaving his power intact. As Mariposa's skills were more geared towards healing, it was their hope that she could learn to use her healing power to purge the Shade from those who were fully possessed, perhaps even undo the shackles around the souls of those in the Circle, so that they may draw into the Obelisk's powers without spreading the Shade, or leaving themselves at risk of losing their souls.
And so, after learning what her mother knew of how to draw out the Shade fragments (as well as how to smite them once they were in her grasp), Mariposa departed with her parents' blessings to seek out a tutor within the Gladekeeper's domain. There, she learnt all she could about healing, before hearing rumors of several dragons in the icy south, who wore bird skulls and acted like puppets whose strings were pulled by an unseen master. Putting two and two together, she realized with great alarm that those dragons were possessed by the Shade, so she bade her tutor farewell, and hastily departed for the Southern Icefield.
However, while passing over the Shifting Expanse, a sudden sandstorm kicked up. Wholly unused to flying in such weather, she was forced to land and seek shelter. There, she encountered several dragons, among them a certain black and blue Fae who offered her shelter...
