Biography

Maleficent was a traveler once, a long time ago. She had traveled the world, venturing far and wide, and while she traveled, she learned. In the deepest caves and the highest reaches of the sky, the young skydancer learned the ancient arts of the elements. She found places that had not been touched in many years, found libraries in the deepest parts of the varidian labyrinth, overgrown, but still so full of knowledge. In her findings, her magic grew, and Maleficiant became one of the most powerful mages in existence. Yet, she never used her vast power. In fact, very few dragons knew she had any magical prowess at all. There had been many who wished her harm, for various reasons. Some were travelers, some were thieves and bandits, and yet others were clans that harboured fear. As far as they were concerned, she was nothing more that a normal dragon passing through. It was only after she had flown to the furthest, most desolate reaches of the world that she finally stopped traveling. She returned to a clan she had met once, where she had rested for a while to wait out a storm. This clan was one that had good and pure intentions, and although she had only visited a single time, it felt right. This is the place Maleficiant would stay. The place the clan had chose to settle was hidden from view, deep within the earth. It was safe, it was quiet, and it was perfect. Here, she would further hone her art. Here, she would weave her magic in ways that she never had before, ways that very few dragons had.
As time passed, Maleficent grew in strength, mixing magic into her own unique creations, using ancient arts to create something entirely new. Most of it would never be used, but she wrote it down anyway. It would be a shame to let the knowledge die. This was her self-appointed job, keeper of knowledge.
It made her happy, her work. And she grew to love the clan, even if she was not a fan of every dragon in it. It was here that found a mate. A dragon that was just as quick of mind as she was, and just as eager to learn about the old arts. Together they developed a complex protection for the clan that she called home. This protection would not let any dragon enter that wished the clan harm. It was ingenious, and fault-proof in its complexity. It was all about intent. Should an intruder with bad intentions try to enter the clan, they would find themselves lost in a never ending maze of tunnels, with the only way out being the way they had come in. It used a special kind of magic, very similar to the kind that skydancers posses naturally. It should have have been impossible to break through, yet a dragon managed.
The day she found out was not unlike any other. The newest leader of the clan, an Imperial by the name of Ewald, approached her one day. This in itself was a strange occurrence, as the dragons of the clan tended to leave her well enough alone nowadays. He spoke of a dragon that had come into the clan. One that had planned to let intruders in. One that would have caused death. How they had gotten past Maleficent's defenses was a mystery, one she promised the other dragon that she would look into. She needed to find the fault just as much as the clan needed her to. She had to know how something had escaped her perfect defences. What kind of power did this dragon weild? So, she investigated. Step one, check to make sure there was not a fault in the spell. There wasn’t, which was expected. Step two, track down the intruder and make him confess what he had done to trick her spell. She told her mate that she would be back shortly, she had an errend to run. He was concerned, but it was a concern that he did not voice, of this Maleficient was glad. When she left to find the dragon, the sun was just beginning to set, painting the sky a variety of colours, it was the perfect time to leave to make up some ground. The other dragon had a two day head start, after all.
For the first time in many years, Maleficiant donned her traveling cloak. She wouldn't be gone long, but it had been storming outside, and it was always good to be protected. Cloak on, Maleficent set out. The storm had passed, and the wind lifted her into the sky. Finding the intruder would not be hard, not with the aid of a tracking spell that she had once encountered. It was simply called 'the search', and it always worked better on unique dragons. As it so happened, this particular dragon was easy enough to identify, and Maleficent followed the spell. When she found the dragon, Maleficent wasted no time in cornering him. There was a dark aura around her, and when she demanded answers from him, he gave them, his fear evident in the tone of his voice. He did not know everything. He had not been aware of the nature of the spell, in fact, he had not even known the location of the clan until a few days before his enterance. He had been hired by a group of dragons. He was supposed to help them get in, and what happened after was never said. It was the perfect counter, one Maleficiant can't belive she didn't think of. This dragon had no ill will to the clan, so he was let in, yet he could still take down their defenses. Quite cunning. Maleficiant debates for a moment on weather this dragon had seen to much. In the end, she let him go, he wouldn’t know what he had seen, what he had felt. He would be to afraid to tell anyone anyway. So, the skydancer set course back to the clan, and when she entered, she poured herself into her magic, thinking and creating. The end result was an affiliates clause. Now, nobody hired by a foe could enter. Maleficiant has found this clan, and she intended it to stay. She may not be the leader, but these dragons were under her protection, and she would not let any harm befall them.
