Raziel and his dear demonic partner Bentley were born and raised in Dark Sclera society. The society of dragons born and raised in all-Dark Sclera Clans is somewhat peculiar. Dark Sclera, unlike Sornieth's other known eye types, is hereditary, making it easy for Clans to form which only have Dark Sclera eyes. In addition, it is believed that some sects of these dragons were created purely through the essence of the Shade, while the other sects were created through the divine essence of the First Age. Raziel is a member of the divine group, known in folklore as angels, while Bentley is a member of the demonic sect. The two have very strong Dark Sclera heritage, which manifests as the stark white feathers on Raziel's wings (which he very much hates, as they get in the way and you just can't keep them clean), the bright lightning-bolt patterns across their scales, and the fact that their extremely potent magic simply doesn't align with known elements. Raziel doesn't much like using his magic when he doesn't have to - though he's very good at getting Bentley to do things for him (Raziel has amazingly effective puppy-dog eyes).

It was not Raziel's idea to escape the Dark Sclera Clans along with Bentley, but he'd be damned if he'd let Bentley go alone. Intelligent and studious, with a nervous stutter and a nervous laugh, Raziel knows he can be a bit of a coward - but rarely where Bentley is concerned. Though angelic Dark Sclera dragons are raised not to ask questions and to always follow orders, he typically has the air about him of a dragon who doesn't very much want to be questioning things but can't really help it, not to mention he's a surprisingly good liar. Raziel is a very polite dragon, and his first instinct in any situation is always to smile (even if other dragons are being rude to him). A very expressive dragon, it's typically easy to see exactly what he's feeling on his face, even when he tries to hide it. He tends to be a bit jumpy, and though his prides himself on his angelic virtues (his tidiness, his intelligence, his patience, compassion, empathy), he can be surprisingly manipulative and even reckless. Quite the foodie, Raziel cannot cook himself but has been known to take on disproportionate risk in the name of food. Raziel knows he may be a bit too much of a coward and he may often need prompting to really do the right thing, but he can always count on Bentley to balance him out.
