The youngest in a clutch of four and the last to hatch, Elk was deemed the weakest of the nest. His eyes possessed an unnatural slit, displayed horizontally. Even though runes glistened along his sides, much like his father, he possessed no special abilities.

Entry One

I was making maps of the hive when I came across the nursery. I had been here before, every time one of the consciousnesses nests hatches, I'm here. This morning was different though. As I walked around, checking the health of the eggs, I happened across this one. It glowed when I approached, slowly splitting open for me to peek inside. The slime was hard to see through, but as I moved it aside, I spotted this little drone. He was shifting and twisting in the egg, faint runes glowing along his carapace. He was so close to hatching, so I thought it best to wait around until one of the parents showed up.

I waited in the dark for maybe ten minutes before the mother showed up. A gorgeous thing she is, with a weak wing and a slight limp. I waited for her mate before moving, the half-drone moving delicately, walking on eggshells, frightened his mate would display the same ruthlessness as her father.

When the hatchling began to clamber from the egg not even an hour later, even I couldn't breathe. It's eyes were horizontal, the goat type. The first this hive has hatched. Only the second drone with goat, though it wouldn't much matter. The male drone watched his mate for any ill-intent, though she only leaned down and crooned quietly, almost like a lullaby. The hatchling wobbled to her, slumping into her waiting talons so Mercy could pick him up.

It was a heartwarming sight, really. Mercy seemed to appreciate the lack of a transparent belly, soothing the baby drone to sleep with ease. She acted like the average dragon mother, chattering quietly with River, hums and buzzes. It took several moments before they left for the rookery with the little thing, and I unfortunately was not able to follow. I will report more on this drone at a later date.

Entry Two

It's been a few days since my last entry, the hatchling has grown much quicker than its siblings, twice their size and yet still very gentle. It behaves almost like a fawn, wobbly on its legs and easy to frighten. Its siblings take advantage of this, jumping out from corners or holes in the walls to get a reaction, its taken to squealing and sprinting off in a panic. Since I've seen it last, it seems to have grown two small nubs that are a light red color and appear to be fuzzy. It rubs them against the walls and sharp objects, like they are itchy. It whines when they open, seemingly discontented and upset by this.

As I observe it more, the nubs begin to look more like a young deer's antlers. The fuzz reminds me of a buck in velvet. Perhaps its genetics have mutated to match the eyes? It confuses me greatly. I will report back in a week to update on this.

Entry Three

It's been a week since my last entry, and the drone has nearly reached it's full size. At nearly three times the size of both of it's parents, it's clear that Elk(I've decided to call him this due to the antlers!) retains his grandfathers large genetics. It even possesses small whiskers now, though they don't seem to serve any purpose. Elk's horns have reached a size where they are no longer red and fuzzy, but a mix between the color of bone and the common ebony of the hive, with the glow of his runes at the tips. It's beautiful, in a way.

Mercy likes to hang little trinkets from his horns, little earrings and strings with bones. She has draped countless silks over his tail while she decorates the hive, it's kind of cute, in some messed up way. His father, on the other hand, hasn't exactly done much to interact with the drone since it's hatching. River doesn't seem to like his son, perhaps the eyes unnerve him.

On another note, Elk has grown slightly more aggressive around his male sibling and other male drones, getting into little duels and fighting until they are both out of breath and heavily bleeding. I think the goat type eyes have affected this part of his behavior as well. Or maybe it's just his personality, which almost makes it worse. I don't think Mercy would like to know about his frequent fights.

He's supposed to leave in a few days, with Benign and King. Supposedly, it's a diplomatic mission with the Frankincense hive. Maybe it's an attempt to find the two Genesis' child. Whatever it is, King and Benign have both had their programming altered by Sis herself.

How odd.
