JJ bristled. Menorca could see it. She’d made a living watching others for the slightest shift in attitude, the smallest hint of disrespect or distrust. The goods she dealt in were not, say, farm implements. Though, she had to admit, that might have been a good cover story.

“That’s the beauty of the arrangement,” Menorca said. “I don’t do anything. I only sell them.”

The Skydancer stood taller, and Menorca knew that her life was an open book to him. She didn’t mind that. After all, she had friends in low places. Low enough to not be noticed and low enough to not care how dragons fell.

“You think you are not culpable in the death of innocents?”

Menorca shrugged and smiled a little. “I don’t know. And I don’t really care, to be completely honest with you.”

JJ sniffed. “Honest. That’s about the only laudable moral you have. What a shame you have no compunction to go along with it.”

“Look.” Menorca whipped down to look JJ in his Ice eyes. “The world is full of creatures that only want. It doesn’t matter what it is, but they are willing to do lots of things to get it. Someone’s going to take advantage of that, and why not let it be me?”

It was apparently JJ’s turn to smile, and he lifted his chin in an expression of disdain. “You know you’re absolutely correct.”

Menorca sneered. “I know.”

“It’s not the gods’ fault how dragons use magic.”

Menorca comes from a long line of completing the necessary, no matter the cost. She has little respect for anything but survival: not the gods, not life━whether dragon or beast. Menorca’s only virtue is the necessary, and she sees a great many things as necessary. After all, if she’s not in the middle of diseased disaster of Sornieth’s wars, then another dragon will be. She’d rather be the one behind the weapons than in front of them.

Outside of interactions with the more law- and justice-aligned dragons, Menorca isn’t shy about her profession. She’s an arms dealer, and beasts and dragons fight and claw to be her most cherished customers. She employs some of the greater minds of dragonkind, creating monstrosities to deliver potent Plague magic, flood the unprepared with Water, smoke out the settled with Fire. She’s fairly accomplished in Wind magic herself, preferring to mix her abilities with more dangerous varieties of other magic. Wind is known for moving, and quickly.

Traveling with the oddly philanthropic Tempest Chase hasn’t softened Menorca’s outlook. She views mercy as a weakness, and only helps if there’s something in it for her. The tiniest step beyond the line she’s drawn is to be met with the fiercest return━an eye for a wing or a foot or a life. Those with her, however, truly with her, she protects completely. Those who know her have no illusions on the lengths she’ll go. Two dragons in particular, her Plague accomplice Cymophane, and her Arcane enchanter {NAME}, she would protect as long as they proved they were loyal.

Menorca might have made a good Plague dragon, since nothing means more to her than survival of the fittest, and celebrating that survival no matter how brutal or costly. She sheds no tears for the way things could be, accepting that some things simply are. She prides herself on being the strongest, even though she’s far from the biggest. Like Wind, she enjoys pushing even the largest obstacles aside for the sake of her own future, chipping away at the largest boulder until it is but the tiniest grains of sand.

TROPICAL CAIMAN - inspiration

Menorca doesn’t have much time for pets, but she often visits an island off the coast of Wind territory to escape the pressures of her everyday life. On that island live a group of tropical caimans, and she enjoys watching them lounge about. After all, they are among the more dangerous non-dragon creatures in the world. Fast despite their size, and lazy despite their reputation. Lying in wait like a hunting Bogsneak, brutal and final when they decide to make a move. They cannot be reasoned with and they cannot be stopped. She is oddly protective of them on her island, though she couldn’t care much less about them anywhere else.

» Menorca is the daughter of Palau, a hunter raised up by Tohil to fight monsters. Tohil has a number of misgivings about the way Menorca pursues their common goal.
