There are a few places in which an unwanted hatchling may find themselves in. A good portion of these young dragons end up as bumps in tall grasses, haunting the fields in which they slumber. Some find themselves endlessly searching for a place to call home, eventually settling for grim loneliness. A very lucky few find new homes, whether within a whole clan or with another lost soul. The very rarest end up serving the deities, without worry for the future.

Surely Sorp would fit one of these molds. She is alive, surrounded by dragons of vastly different ages and backgrounds. Surely she found herself a new clan to settle in, where she could be free and loved?

Alas, an unwanted hatchling sometimes stays unwanted.

It sufficed to say that Sorp was invisible. Well, in a literal sense, but mostly in a metaphorical sense. Sorp was the largest of her four-dragon litter. Her three siblings hatched with a cacophony of cries, yet young Sorp remained silent. Sure, existence was painful and she had every ability to squeal along with her siblings, but the strange dragoness just didn't.

The siblings were born to Appah and Malorne. Neither dragon could be considered pretty by any standards, but they found beauty in each other. It would be a touching love story, but this isn't their story. Malorne and Appah gave equal amounts of time to their three children. Miu, Bruce, and Motuiti. Neither of these three dragons looked truly exceptional, but Sorp clearly outweighed them in hideousness. The most attention Sorp had gotten was the moment her parents laid eyes on her, but they never looked at her again.

From hatching, Sorp was clearly unwanted. Her parents never acknowledged her existence, parading the three little hatchlings around Sornieth instead. When the family left to travel the world, Sorp did try to follow. She had no clue what the world was like, so her family was all she felt comfort in. The other hatchlings got stronger over their first few days, and soon the whole family left the bogsneak behind.

The lonely hatchling was abandoned without a name. She had nothing to offer this cruel world, and so it offered nothing in return. Sorp tried to find shelter, hiding under trees in the rain and nestling in empty dens when the leaves couldn't cover her. The hatchling quickly learned to make herself invisible. The bogsneak would search for her family during the day, cowering in cold loneliness at night.

It seemed to be her fate, until she ran into a pair of foraging Wildclaws. One snickered at the mere sight of her, pointing at the bogsneak and speaking a single word: Sorp.

The hatchling didn't understand the words murmured between the two afterwards, so that single word must have belonged to her. Sorp...it must have been her name. She had no idea what it meant, but she took it proudly; it was the only thing she had. Sorp cherished the name, electing to follow the Wildclaws as they returned from their hunt. They allowed her to tag along, ignoring the hatchling and whispering to themselves. Soon, the dragons took off, flying in off to what seemed to be their clan. Sorp tried to follow, flapping her growing wings the way the Wildclaws did. Nothing happened: the dragon had never learned to fly.

Rejected for the second time, Sorp crawled back to the shadows. Why did no one want her? Why wouldn't they look at her more than once? She had no answers, only her name and the silence of the forest. But, maybe she truly was invisible? Maybe the adults only saw her once because she couldn't be seen again? Determined to find out, Sorp ran to a small, clear lake. She slowly edged her body above the water, looking down at her reflection.

She wasn't invisible.
She was ugly.

Disgusted by herself, she fled the lake with tears burning in her eyes. She had seen few dragons, but she knew her own appearance was sore on the eyes. Sorp didn't get very far before she ran into another dragon. Quickly scrambling to her feet, she apologized quietly and went to turn the other way, but something caught her eye. The dragon was wearing a paper mask, as if it were pretending to be another breed. Under it seemed to be more masks. The figure also wore multiple jackets but it didn't seem good for the warm weather.

These were the only things Sorp noticed, as the figure was gone as soon as it came, leaving a heap of cloth behind. Sorp wanted to follow to return the lost item, but the figure was too quick, and soon it was just Sorp and the forest. She decided to put the cloth on, hoping it would cover her ugly body. Upon inspecting herself she found... nothing.

Sorp was truly invisible, and no living dragon would ever see her horrid face again.

After a month of a lonely existence, Sorp emerged from the forest to the prying eyes of a growing clan. She had little vocabulary, only knowing the words murmured in the quiet life of the forest. The clan took her in and taught her to properly speak, but that's one skill she chooses not to employ. Of course, she wasn't sure if it'd truly be home, but it was all she knew for a while.

It all changed when a pile of rocks, set in the corner of her den, awoke. A cat-like golem rose from its slumber, casting its eyes on the distraught dragoness. It spoke no words as it walked over and made itself comfortable by Sorp's side. While the rocks formed no words, Sorp heard the voice, compelling her to her new duty:
"Kill the clan,
Bit by bit.
In their graves,
You ought to spit.
An afterlife,
I will permit:
Bountiful friends,
with which you fit."

Sorp was unsure of what the Golem said. If she killed them all, wouldn't they hate her? She'd do anything for them to not hate her. Yet the feline comforted her with harsh words, promising they'd have no memory of who killed them, a d that she had a friend rooting for her while she did it.

The lonesome bogsneak agreed, setting off to kill the highest authority in the clan: their leader. She was cruel and merciless, but he wouldn't remember, right? While she had successfully gone through with the first murder of many, the clan was thrown into shambles. Apparently, their dear leader was a friend to most dragons, and now they had a taste of what loneliness can do.

Sorp found that she could bring herself to hurt another female, but she needed to follow the Golem's words, else she'd be caught and Alone. The feline told her it may happen if she wasn't smart enough. So the Bogsneak targeted male dragons, and pitifully let the females be exiled from the clan. Almost everyone had friends and would soon have nothing. She knew they'd all be friends in the afterlife, so she continued.

It turned out the Golem was right, Sorp wasn't smart enough to dodge accusations or properly frame others. She was quickly found out, with most of the clan still alive. Turning to her friend for help, she found it to be nothing but a rock. Sorp had never known the Golem had never spoken, only heard its voice in her mind, convincing her that death was necessary to be truly happy. Only as she was walking from the clan, her body turned dark by the cruelty of her actions, did Sorp realize the Golem intended for her to die as well.

After leaving, Sorp found herself alone again. She took a new name, Aleinn, and vowed to never speak again. The only living being she encountered after was a Somber Spirit, made from the pain and sorrow of the Bogsneak's actions. It is a constant reminder that Aleinn is Alone, and the world is probably better off with her being that way.
