Billy

Like Flower and Mint, Billy was not born within the boundaries of Clan Gale Rain’s territory. Hailing from the Shifting Expanse, he has told the story of his journey to curious clanmates more times than he cares to count. Although the energy contained within the storms that roll across the arid expanse of the Stormcatcher’s territory was useful in powering many of his more intensive experiments, the thunder that shook the ground was more disruptive than anything, and so he set out searching for a new place to call home. When he found Clan Gale Rain, quiet and secluded on its floating island, he knew he had found a haven where he might carry out his work in peace.

Although welcomed warmly by his new clan, Billy prefers to spend his days tucked away in his laboratory, alone, working on half a dozen new inventions at a time, ranging from clever new gadgets for hatchlings to play with to innovative tools to help sustain the clan’s food supply. He is eager to give back to his new family and share his discoveries and work with them, but because he is still relatively new to Clan Gale Rain, he often finds himself tongue-tied around his clanmates, unsure of what to say, so flustered by unexpected conversations that he often trips over his own feet or knocks over his experiments, earning him a reputation for being awkward and clumsy. He does his best to help his adoptive clan, often leaving small gifts outside his friends’ dens, expressing his affection for his new family the best way he knows how.

He has a particular admiration for Casey, the clan blacksmith, recognizing a kindred spirit in a fellow craftsman with total devotion to his art. Casey is the one dragon within the clan who Billy feels totally at ease with, content to spend long hours in silence with his friend as the two work side by side on their respective projects or listen to Jester and Mint regale the clan with their jokes and tall tales.
